We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuji Tyler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuji, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Everyone wants to create some cool stuff right? It’s even difficult to get to the grassroots. They can get tired of the process until the point you can create. For example, If you wanna become a DJ from the ground up, you need to start by downloading all the songs, finding out what’s the best fitting equipment you need to get for the style you wanna play, learning how to use them, and find a person that can teach you or go to youtube university or years. haha. On top of that, if you were to find a place to perform and stack live experience(especially in LA), by the time you finish planning, you feel exhausted and don’t have the enthusiasm or creativity to even think about the fun part. That’s when I and my partner Atom (RIP) though this is an idea that can apply to any creatives. “Why don’t we create a space for creatives that are supplied with equipment, knowledge, and opportunities. That’s what CERES Los Angele’s “EMBASSY PROGRAM” is today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art form encompasses many aspects of artist strategy, development, and design. Bringing artists together and nurturing their natural talents while positioning them to perform at their peak. Artists should have the chance to be “an artist” and focus fully on their craft without getting distracted by how to market or sell it. Real art comes from pure expression devoid of creative limitations. Uniting together as a grassroots creative community will empower artists in the industry and is at the forefront of what I do and what CERES represents.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arts District – Downtown Los Angeles

Breakfast at Etiquette Coffee – Lunch at Sonora town – Shopping at Dover Street, THE ROW, H Lorenzo Archive, Departamento
Dinner at Kodo in Rykn, Drinks at Soho Warehouse, Bar Manuela, Resident – Tacos at my favorite truck on 8th/hill (I don’t know the name). head to after-hours…

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner Atom. Although he is no longer on this earth with us, he was the catalyst that brought me to where I am now. When I first moved to Los Angeles from Japan 7 years ago, Atom was one of my very first friends and was the one who opened up many doors and opportunities for not only me but countless others. We shared hours of effort, sweat, and tears to bring our shared vision to life. Since his passing, I made a promise to him, myself, and our community to keep his legacy alive by providing the container, support, and resources for creatives to bring their own dreams to fruition.
