Meet Yuliia Borodai | Photographer @yuliia_LAPhoto

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuliia Borodai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yuliia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been a creative person, constantly looking for ways to express myself through art. Photography became more than just a hobby for me—it turned into a true passion. I love capturing moments, emotions, and the beauty of people and the world around them.
In addition, I had years of experience in photo editing and retouching, which gave me confidence in my skills and professionalism. This experience became a solid foundation for starting my own business. It not only improved the quality of my photos but also reassured my clients that their images would turn out flawless.
Starting my own photography business felt like a natural step. It allowed me to turn what I love into a career. It’s not just about taking pictures, but about building something of my own—setting my own standards, working with clients who value my approach, and bringing my ideas to life.
Working for myself has given me the freedom to grow, learn new things, and manage my time and projects. I love being part of people’s significant moments and creating something unique for each client.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in various types of photography, including portrait sessions, family photoshoots, love stories, and brand photography. I also enjoy shooting video content and working with cars, which adds a unique touch to my work.
I’m proud of how I’ve built my career in a new country, Los Angeles. In the 8 months I’ve been here, I’ve learned so much, and despite the fierce competition, I’ve managed to establish connections and find my first clients. My ability to quickly adapt to new conditions and constantly develop, perfect my skills, and techniques is what sets me apart from others. I actively explore new approaches to ensure my work remains relevant and exciting for my clients.
Another thing that sets me apart is my 3 years of experience as a retoucher. This experience allows me to work quickly and efficiently with skin imperfections, color correction, and other aspects of post-processing. In this field, I continue to learn and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies, helping me create flawless final images.
Additionally, I offer my clients a unique opportunity — a short video from the photoshoot. In the last 10-15 minutes of the session, we film not just a behind-the-scenes moment but a complete mini-film that complements the photos. This gives my clients the chance to preserve the atmosphere of the shoot in motion and receive another valuable memento.
What distinguishes me is my constant drive for perfection. I keep learning new techniques, experimenting with different approaches, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends in photography and videography.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend came here, the first things I’d show them would be Santa Monica with its stunning ocean views, the Hollywood Hills with their unique atmosphere and incredible panoramas, Malibu’s beaches where you can really feel the California spirit, and the local food market at The Grove—where the cultural diversity of Los Angeles truly comes to life.
We’d also head to Downtown Los Angeles to enjoy the impressive architecture of the high-rise buildings and the unique vibe of the city. Of course, Long Beach with its beaches and relaxed atmosphere would definitely be on the list.
I’d also take my friend to Universal Studios and Six Flags, as they offer unforgettable experiences and loads of excitement.
And, of course, we’d visit San Francisco—an unforgettable city with stunning architecture, the Golden Gate Bridge, and an amazing atmosphere.
California alone offers so many incredible places to see, but all across the United States, there are countless amazing spots that are definitely worth exploring. America has everything for those who love nature, culture, and adventure.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the people who believed in me and supported me every step of the way. First and foremost, my boyfriend, who has always been by my side, inspiring and encouraging me through challenging moments. His faith in me and his unwavering support have been my rock.
I’m also incredibly grateful to my family, who believed in me even as I made bold decisions and changed my life. Their support gave me the strength to keep moving forward.
A special thanks goes to my friend, a fellow photographer, who helped me choose my equipment and gave me valuable advice at the very start of my journey. Even now, he’s always there for me, ready to assist whenever I face something new in my work. His expertise and guidance have been invaluable to me.
And, of course, I’m deeply thankful to each of my clients. They trust me to capture their most important moments, and their joy and feedback inspire me to keep improving with every project.
