Meet YUNYUE WANG | fashion designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with YUNYUE WANG and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi YUNYUE, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My inspiration usually came from my personal life experiences, raleted culture, or other things that I was deeply involved in, the things that Im confident enough to talk about. I see my creative process evolving from telling my personal experiences to encompassing collective narratives. I have found myself repeatedly journeying into the depths of my inner self to unravel the enigmatic questions that have haunted me, and then sharing these insights with individuals who share similar experiences, advocating for our voices to be heard and seeking to alleviate common challenges.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
.
I’m proud when I look back and see how far I’ve come on this journey.
Every year I am surprised at how many challenges I have met, how many wonderful journeys I have been on. This new information is a gift to me as a designer, allowing me to renew my understanding of design or the industry each time. Reflecting on my strengths, I find that my technical proficiency and innovative approach have been consistently honed through hands-on experience and a commitment to pushing boundaries. However, there is a conscious inclination toward a more rational and commercially oriented viewpoint in my design process based on my undergraduate studies
However, it’s not easy to grow up fast, and to be honest, it’s not easy for everyone who works in the fashion industry. For, my colleagues, and friends, we are lucky that we still have the passion to help us overcome every challenge.
In essence, my journey in fashion design has been a continuous quest for introspection, innovation, and a dedication to striking a balance between the creative and commercial aspects of the field. My experiences and skills have shaped me into a designer who not only creates aesthetically pleasing garments but also understands the importance of a business-oriented perspective in fashion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting LA, beach days in Venice and Santa Monica would follow, complete with lively boardwalks and sunset dinners at oceanfront spots like Nobu Malibu.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, especially my mother. Not only did she provide immense emotional support during my creative process, but she also helped me manage the overwhelming workload. For example, when I was working on my Knot series, one of the dresses was adorned with various intricate Chinese knots. If it weren’t for my mother and the family and friends who helped me make it, I wouldn’t have been able to complete such a complex piece in such a short amount of time. Their combined efforts and encouragement were invaluable to my journey and success.
