We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette Samick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvette, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I am a devoted Dog Mom and I understand the loving relationship between a pup and their Mom. Dogs give us such incredible love and to capture those special moments between a Dog Mom and their pup is best job ever. Once I show the images from their sessions and I can see the smiles I know this is what I meant to be, a dog photographer. Whether their story is just beginning, in the middle or at the end giving Dog Mom’s memories thru imagery and custom artwork is what I am all about. I would say my success of my brand comes from listening and understanding the vision of each client and ensuring I have included all the details that will make their session memorable and fun experience.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Early in my career as a dog photographer I did not have specific focus and didn’t know my brand as I do now.. As in any new business growth and change is a good thing and you learn a tremendous amount as you go along. I realized that while I love all types of dog photography there was one aspect of my clients that was always true. Branding is so important to identify with you customers that are looking for you. My branding concept is simple…”I create custom dog portraits for women who design their life around their dog”. I am this woman. You know the one who buys specially made food, plans her day and whole life around her dog and I would not have it any other way!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had friend out of town I would take them to The Grove in Los Angeles most definitely. It is so fun and full of people and completely dog friendly. There are a ton of restaurants, bars and shops. Farmers Market is full of international samplings of food and has The Dog Bakery for treats for your pup. If I was staying local I would take them to Main Street in Huntington Beach to the Wet Dog Tavern. Food is amazing in one word and they have menu for your pup.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being a Dog Mom has shaped me in to the photographer I am today. I have always loved photography. Whether it was photographing animals in the wild or landscapes there is something so incredible to see what you have created thru your lens. But the love of my dogs and creating images of them is what really gave me the passion I feel now and today as a photographer. Now I just use the landscape and color to paint a picture with dogs. I credit and dedicate my journey into being the best dog photographer I can to my 8 dogs and the love I have had for them and the life we have had.
