We had the good fortune of connecting with Zena Harris And Mark Rabin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zena Harris, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
On our podcast, “The Tie-In” we talk shop with filmmakers, event producers, and entertainment professionals from around the world in a quest to amplify the voices of people who are innovating, leveraging their influence, connecting ideas, and inspiring crews to make the entertainment we love more sustainable. We aim to empower innovators of sustainable technology and methodologies who are working within the entertainment industry. Through greater visibility, the people and businesses who are setting new, safer standards of environmental ethics gain more confidence to break the status quo that can be unhealthy and hold us back. Guests on our podcasts share stories of their experience, and our listeners learn better approaches to reducing waste, efficiency gains, and new and innovative models on productions and during live events of all types. Batteries that don’t rely on Diesel are helping crews function better, and highlighting their technological successes in the field is paving the way for truly greener practices in many professions. Film, television, and music have always set the example for what’s coming next. Increasing awareness in the entertainment industry and having the attention of the general public can be a great asset to positive change.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Manifesting “The Tie-In” came from many years of being on film/tv/live event productions ourselves and working with crew, hearing their frustrations relating to so much unnecessary waste and inefficiencies behind the scenes. We wanted to build our show around the voices of crew members across the globe who share similar stories and dreams of the future. What we’ve found through talking with them is that the future is already here; people are already doing amazing things but it takes amplification and continued stewardship to help it along. Our motto, one we’ve gleaned from the awesome Climate Influencer, Andrea Learned, is “Love ‘Em Up.” When people take the time to activate actions and conversation around sustainability, our job is to let peers and the public know. What sets us apart is that we’re not afraid to acknowledge the truth with our art form. As a matter of fact, we’re elated to be among those who embrace fresh ideas like clean energy battery generators, solar energy, reusing sets or costume pieces, and setting creatives up for success. We believe in the power of a crew and their creative ideas, because we wouldn’t have the media we love without them. Our podcast highlights the people behind the scenes doing amazing work and innovating.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so much to do in the Los Angeles area! We love the outdoors so we’ll go for a morning hike, grab coffee and head to the beach. We love Zuma, Santa Monica, Venice – you really can’t go wrong. We’ll grab lunch at a cool vegan or vegetarian restaurant like Planta and indulge our inner child and movie enthusiast by going on a studio tour. We know lots of folks in the entertainment industry so our tour might be a real behind the scenes look! We’ll wrap out the week with a concert on the beach and chat with friends who are powering it with batteries.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to the 9th annual “Sustainable Production Forum” for bringing global attention to sustainability in the film & television industry. Their recent events in Toronto and Vancouver did so much to support #ClimateInfluence – and we’re excited for their online event on October 23. We’d also like to thank the hard-working teams behind both “Green Spark Group” and “Portable Electric,” as well as our new collaborator, AY Young, the proud Founder & CEO of “Battery Tour.”
