We had the good fortune of connecting with Monika Casey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I want to help actors who are new to LA and the “Biz”. Unless you grew up in LA and come from a showbiz family, it can take years to find your way. Most people move here and sort of float around for a couple years before they find an agent or manager. My goal is to expedite that process by sharing tips and tools I’ve learned to help inspire and motivate actors. It’s also important to build community and help actors find their people. A strong support system is essential when you need to run lines and self tape auditions last minute.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have learned that you need to wear a lot of hats if you want to get anywhere in Hollywood. You can’t just be one thing (an actress). I learned improv with The Groundlings, wrote and performed stand up comedy, created and shot small things with friends that turned into producing bigger things with friends. I love connecting and helping people whenever I can and that inspired me to teach a class for comics that zeros in on their brand and sculpts it for tv/film. I created my online workshop ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ that quickly covers the tips and tools you need to become the CEO of you in this crazy business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohhhhhh, if I had a week to show my bestie a good time…First off it’s LA, so you have to get a workout in at Training Mate! Then you need to recharge with a magical latte at Urth Cafe, Alfred’s and Blue bottle (I usually consume 2-3 a day!) Then we’d head over to The Den for a reiki meditation with Heather Martin! Followed by lunch at Joan’s on Third for killer salads and naughty baked goods. Then an evening hike to the Hollywood sign! The next day would be a day at the beach and a tour of Malibu’s Country Mart and sunset on their Pier. A day of shopping in Los Feliz followed by dinner at Pacé on Laurel Canyon. The rest of the visit would be rooftop pools, lunches and massages!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout out to Heather Martin. Not only is she a key Reiki Healer in Los Angeles, she works on animals too! She has helped me and my pups to keep calm and carry on in this crazy city of angeles.
