We had the good fortune of connecting with Nik Tizekker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nik, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has had a big part in my career. I took a big risk recently actually where I found a production company looking for projects. They help get funding for films and get them distributed. I took what remaining money I had and invested in them to help. They pushed me and now, with his help, have a fully developed TV series that is currently being shopped to networks and investors. I have also kept contacts from previous projects and have kept in contact with most of them. You never know what they will say. I mean the worst they are going to say is “no, I’m not interested”. You are no better off then you were before. So take the risk, use your contacts. It’s what life is about.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Producer/Director and am the founder of Tizaster Productions. Everything started when I was 7 years old and I got my first video camera. I made so many videos with family and friends. I got my first professional job on a tv show in Portland, Oregon. I was an Intern and that’s where I learned a lot about proper Set etiquette. I also met a lot of people. I moved to Los Angeles when I was 21 and I just turned 30 on June 7. In the last 9 years, 3 of which were college, I have been working on projects as an Intern and worked my way up to 1st Assistant Director. Now I am a Producer for a feature film entitled “Trail Blazers” Directed by Antonio Sabato Jr, who is also starring alongside Robert Wagner, Kaya Jones, Kristy Swanson, Kevin Sorbo, Dean Cain, and many more. It’s an action packed movie in a western setting. God vs Satan. Here is the link for more info: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12343138/

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Los Angeles, there’s a lot of things to do. One of my best friends lives in Colorado, a land locked state, I love to go to beach. When he visits I take him there, cause they don’t have it out there. The beach, to me is so majestic and mysterious. There are still places in the ocean we haven’t discovered yet. I also enjoy No Vacancy, it’s a speakeasy bar in Hollywood that used to be the home of Charlie Chaplin. Just north of The Jim Henson Studios, which, he too, also used to own. I am a big fan of true crime stories so I like visiting old historic sites where those happened. For instance, the Charles Manson murders. The house is no longer standing but Cielo Dr and the property is there. The house is newly built, there’s also his old stomping ground, “Spahn Ranch”, which is now a place you can take hikes and find places they use to wonder. There’s a lot of sites in photographs still standing. That’s in Carlsbad about 20-30mins north of Hollywood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom. She has always supported me in my career path since day 1. I don’t know where I would be without her. My Nana as well. She sadly passed away Feb 2019, but even though she didn’t fully agree with it or understand it, she alway made the effort to try and understand it. She always told me how proud she was of me.
