Our Linked Prosperity: how local businesses are helping their communities


Most of the media often paints all businesses with a single stroke, but in our experience businesses are each unique and so many of them are focused on making the world a better place. We’ve highlighted a few such gems below.

As an experienced classical singer and voice teacher not only am I able to help young gifted singers achieve a professional level vocal technique but I also can introduce them to the people who could potentially hire them. I help students become professional musicians… making a living with the vocal gift they were given and the technique I help them develop. Many of my students sing with me on the soundtracks of movies or in productions at Los Angeles Opera or with the L.A. Master Chorale and LA Phil at Disney Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. Over the years I’ve gotten more interested in examining my own carbon footprint. I’ve been shying away from using artificial pigments that rely on the petroleum industry, and instead have focused more on ochres, which are essentially just dirt. I’ve been mixing my paints myself, with beeswax from a family member’s bee hive. I’ve also been working with recycled paper, which I dye with tea and rust. A lot of my inspiration comes from my historical research, but I’ve found that I really like using materials that have a mind of their own. Read more>>
