The values and principles that matter

We’ve always believed that forming a strategy is impossible until you’re clear on what your values and principles are. Without values and principles to guide you, making decisions can seem impossibly difficult. Given how important setting values and principles is to decision making we asked folks we admire to tell us about the values or principles that matter most to them.

In the business world integrity and consistently are on the top of my list. I listed integrity because at the end of the day I need to know your ability to deliver on your word consistently. Integrity to me is not just your brand but maintaining a good name and good character. It’s essential to having a big business impact. Authenticity is my most important value. What are we if we aren’t our authentic selves? A non-authentic existence becomes a prison… The importance of authenticity translates to the business world as well–people can tell when you’re trying to be someone that you aren’t. At the start of my real estate career, I dressed in suits everyday, spoke in a very proper manner, and was just flat out vanilla/boring. I was so worried about appealing to everyone that I lost my edge and spunk that I’ve since learned actually translates very well in business when I just lean into that. Quality of life. There are 3 main elements to quality of life: education, health, and security. As people, we are mostly in control of our quality of life. We can learn pretty much anything on the internet. We can control our physical and mental health with practices like eating real food, exercising, and meditating. We can control our sense of security by manipulating our environment. Domestic dogs, on the other hand, are not in control of their quality of life.
