I was born in China and moved to the United States at the age of 15. Growing up, “inclusivity” was not a widely embraced concept in my environment, at least not in the way I understand it today. However, I was fortunate to be raised in a family that valued openness and acceptance—an outlook that was ahead of its time. This perspective allowed me to see and learn things beyond the conventional norms of my surroundings and helped me integrate seamlessly into the more inclusive society of the U.S. Read More>>

That’s such a tough question! So many things inspire me! I would say animals and nature are my biggest sources of inspiration, but I also find a lot of creative fuel in video games. I love the coexistence of beautiful graphics and unique twists on realism. As an art director in the film industry, one of my biggest inspirations is my dad, who is an interior designer. Growing up, I watched him design rooms and meticulously arrange furniture, which sparked my early interest in creativity and design. I’ve always been artistic, enjoying hands-on projects like crafting, building models, creating props, and even making resin jewelry. Taking art lessons as a child, I quickly discovered that I love creating something entirely new far more than observational art or working from references. Read More>>

We’re inspired by things that stand the test of time—objects, places, and people with stories to tell. It started with family heirlooms that were passed down to us. That moment made us realize that well-made goods aren’t just things; they carry history, meaning, and connection. We see that same power in a perfectly broken-in tool bag, a patinaed leather strap, or a well-worn jacket that’s been everywhere with you. That’s what inspires Chilao—crafting gear that becomes part of someone’s story, something they can trust, use hard, and eventually pass down. Read More>>
