One thing I think outsiders are unaware of is the hustle and the income required. To be a successful indie artist you need to be constantly on it. Self promotion in various forms: Patreon, Twitch, Live Performances, Merchandise, the list goes on. This is a saturated market, and to exist in it you need to be consistent and hardworking. A large part of ‘making it’ in the entertainment industry is luck. The luck of being at the right place at the right time to meet the right influential person that will back you whilst launching your career forward. Unfortunately, you cannot work toward getting lucky. What you can do is sharpen your artistry, hone your skills, and make yourself an exceptional candidate so when the luck comes knocking, you rise to the occasion. That is where I am in my career. The biggest thing that I can say is that outsiders don’t understand is that the industry is cut throat. Things don’t normally go as expected. You expect things to go in the best way possible, when in reality, that’s not always the case. The biggest thing I take away from it is “Anything is Possible”, yet be realistic. Another thing is that relationships going a long way. You can have the best beats, best raps, or the best communication skills, however if you don’t have the relationships built, you will find yourself running a pointless race.
