Working hard or hardly working?

What’s the right balance between work and non-work time? The traditional 9-5 has slowly disappeared with the emails and zoom and texting going far beyond traditional business hours. We asked members of our community to share with us how they think about work-life balance.

I think I was part of a large wave of people who realized during C****-19 that balance was not optional. For much of lockdown, I would wake up, walk straight to my desk, attend class on Zoom, log off in time to start a job in a different time zone, use my leftover energy for homework and writing, and then go to bed. This is such a proactive question. I started my company when I lost my job because I was thrust into the roll as caregiver for my mother. When I was beginning to get involved politically, it was definitely not easy. As a young person in politics at 14, I found myself being the youngest person in the room and it was intimidating. The topic of work-life balance is one that has occupied me for a long time and still causes difficulties today. The most difficult factor is definitely that I don’t perceive my work as work. It is my hobby, my passion. Consequently, I like to invest a lot of time and energy and often forget to give my body and my mind a break.
