We had the good fortune of connecting with Karalyn Zamora and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karalyn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has played a major role in my life and career. I was originally supposed to be a Nurse Practitioner, but decided last minute, right after getting accepted into a nursing program that I wanted to drop out and continue my path in marketing. I think taking risks is important because you need to get yourself out of your comfort zone to grow and realize what your full potential is.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started working as soon as I was allowed to at 15 and a half. I always valued my independence and loved to hustle. It took a lot of hard work, sacrifice, and risks to get to where I am today. I’m a dropout who couldn’t afford college and I’ve always been embarrassed about that up until somewhat recently when I really decided to look back and see how far I’ve come without a college education. I’ve always been told that I needed a college degree to be successful, but what I lacked in traditional education I’ve made up for in drive and passion. I’m really grateful to have been able to start my own businesses and consult for other businesses giving me the opportunity to work with a variety of different people from other extremely impressive founders to professional athletes and grammy winning musicians. I’ve learned that I don’t need to fit someone’s mold to be successful. There isn’t just one path to success. We only have one life to live so why not live it doing things we love and that feed our souls?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Growing up in LA I really took a lot of places for granted. It wasn’t until I moved away and then moved back that I really started to appreciate it and all it’s beauty. I’m definitely more of a chill vibe person now a days. I love picnics at the observatory and small hidden beaches. Some of my favorite food to eat that I would typically take my friends is LA Cafe for their lobster grilled cheese, some intimate pop-up dinners by Soma Kitchen when they have them, Tabu Shabu in Westlake Village or Shabu Shabu house in Little Tokyo. I know there’s probably so much more that I’m missing since I’m such a foodie, but these come top of mind for me. For something more exciting/a night out, EP&LP and Highlight Room with more to come post-pandemic 🙂 The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up I always thought the goal was to be “self-made”, but as I got older I realized that it really does take a village. There are so many people who have contributed to my success and have always supported me. I’m really thankful for my crazy, large and unconventional family, my friends who have always helped push me forward when imposter syndrome would hold me back, my co-founders and teammates that have been in trenches with me, my therapist who has helped me through the darkest parts of my life and my boyfriend who has been so patient and is constantly my number one hypeman. Without all of them, I would not be the person I am today.
