We had the good fortune of connecting with Christophe Piallat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christophe, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As an artist, you need to be constantly taking risks. If you are not taking risks, you are not pushing what art can be. Sometimes that can be a little scary. We all want to take calculated risks, but sometimes you need to fall flat on your face. That jump can sometimes fail, but that fail can sometimes be the key to next level thinking. Throughout my life I have always gravitated toward risk taking sports. Skiing and mountain biking have always been my sanctuary and meditation in balance and grace. One must bound down yet stay in control. If we don’t take that initial bound we will never know what lies ahead, what lies within, and what magic we can wield.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My practice embraces the line between creation and entropy, spectacle and serenity, light and landscape. I construct light installations into a variety of different environments to create meditative spaces and perceptual illusions. I also photograph these installations to produce multi-media 2-demensional art works. My work has spanned fashion, music, theater, international exhibitions, interior design, and education. I use art to see the world and connect with other creatives. It has led me to magical places and allowed me to collaborate with some incredible people. It is never easy and no artist takes the same path. You have to fight everyday to squeeze out the time to do it. Luck, collaborating with others, and cultivating relationships always helps. Get it out there, and if there is no room for it, create your own platform. I want the world to know I lived fully and with heartfelt intent.
