We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think a common misconception about the fitness industry is the idea of making your own schedule. There may not be set hours like most other industries but because the client’s needs come before your own, you’re likely going to work times that may seem inconvenient to your personal life. That’s why it’s so important to put the client’s needs before your own because if you don’t they’re not going to see results and your business will struggle. I believe making the training process a collaborative effort helps because then it feels like being apart of a team where their success is your success. Making the minor inconveniences well worth it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If there’s anything that might set me apart is that because I care a lot about every person I train I feel awkward referring to them as my client. Most of the conversations I have are usually about everything else but fitness. Just makes everything more enjoyable on both ends (until they’re sore for a few days).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Obviously LA is a big city but it offers some of the best outdoor activities close by like Venice Beach for lounging and then a few miles north head there’s Los Liones for a good hiking. Th city has literally every type of food you could ask for and all good quality, which makes it hard to pick just one spot so I’d recommend Grand Central Market in Downtown LA and just explore all the options there. As far as partying goes I always recommend Lock & Key in Koreatown. For a nice dinner with an unmatched view can’t too Spire 73 in Downtown LA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can’t just thank one or a few people because I have picked the brains of many successful coaches/trainers over the years, each one has helped me get to where I am today.
