We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Glasgow in Scotland and lived there my whole life until a few years ago when I took the leap and moved to America to pursue my dream of music. I grew up surrounded by music as my mum, dad and two big brothers are all very musical, and have such a love for all kinds of music. There was always music playing, whether it be Jazz, Motown, The Carpenters or even Abba! Music always filled our home and definitely fuelled my love and passion for it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been passionate about music but didn’t believe I could pursue it full-time, so I went down the academic route and became a school teacher. Eventually after a few years I found the courage to go for my dream of singing and songwriting full-time. I left my job as a teacher and moved to Los Angeles. It has been such an adventure and there have been many highs and lows along the way. I feel like my music often reflects this journey and the songs always have some kind of message of hope in there! I hope my music offers encouragement, positivity and some light, and will empower the listener to be brave and pursue their own dreams!!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I dream of my friends from Scotland visiting L.A. and I hope they would find it just as exciting as I still do even after living here for a few years! I would definitely take them to Abbot Kinney in Venice as it’s the most adorable street with cute wee boutiques, stores and eateries! We absolutely would have brunch at The Butcher’s Daughter and then wander down to Pressed Juicery for a ‘freeze’ (the most delicious, healthy version of ice cream!) Then I would need to take them to the most touristy spots as they can’t come to LA and not visit places like the Hollywood Sign and the Hollywood Walk of fame! We would then wind down with a lovely saunter on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, another beautiful street with a lovely relaxed vibe and finish off the stroll with a healthy dinner bowl at my all time favourite – Sweetgreen!!! (I keep telling my friends and family back home about my obsession of this place, so they already know when they visit, I am taking them there to experience some Sweetgreen magic!) Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am lucky enough to have been completely encouraged, supported, and helped by my family and friends on this crazy adventure of moving to America! From my family and friends in Glasgow who always supported my musical endeavours even before I decided to go full-time, to all the wonderful friends I have met since I moved to America! I wouldn’t have been able to come here or stay here and still be doing this if it wasn’t for the kindness, generosity, belief and love of so many people in my life and for that I am so grateful!!!
