Meet Dr. John Neal Jr.: Entrepreneur & Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. John Neal Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. John, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In starting my own business I wanted the freedom to make my own decisions. I also wanted to inspire people to go above and beyond there personal expectations. Starting my business was not so much about me, but inclusion. I have worked for a lot of different organizations that don’t share this philosophy, which was confusing. When someone has an opinion leaders should be receptive to listening. On the other hand employees should consider there tone of voice and intentions when sharing ides or concerns. I believe that constructive criticism is important as it relates to growth and understanding. My goal is to always be mindful of the organizational culture and subordinates, which allows one to build cohesion. Dr. Maya Angelou said,” If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. “

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the CEO of John Neal Jr. Teaching & Consulting. We train employees to identify their own personal biases through fun interactive activities. Through ice breakers, workshops and seminars we have been able to help individuals broaden their perspectives. To do this work effectively you have to really love and honor people. It is truly an art to be an effective communicator, it starts with active listening with the intent to learn. These components can give a limping organization the legs it needs to be successful. What sets us apart from others is that we cater our workshops to each organization and it’s members. This is not a cookie cutter formula. We identify the needs of your organizational members & it’s culture by first providing a questionnaire to employees and leaders. This allows us to understand how we can approach the training. The information collected is always kept confidential. Our workshops are known for being engaging, thought provoking, innovative and creative. The results organizations can expect is employee growth as it relates to their personal perspectives. These workshops are designed to improve moral, culture and reduce employee turnover. If you respect and like the people you work with it becomes fun. We realize that many organizations are working remotely, that’s why we have created the University of Inspire, a online communications and leadership training program. What makes this platform unique is that you learn at your own pace. I am proud of the University of Inspire because I put my heart and soul into this! I got to this point in business through perseverance and hard work. I sometimes work through the night to complete projects. Having to do the work of several people will make or break you. I decided to let my challenges inspire me, never give up. I’m on the quest for greatness, and yes pain comes with that. I have been able to overcome my challenges by thinking about who’s paved the way for me. I want people to know I went from homelessness to a Doctor, and it wasn’t easy. Life isn’t easy, however I keep my eyes and heart on my legacy. I approach everything with my heart, knowledge and perseverance, with these ingredients success is a must. My brand is about serving the people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy going to the Santa Monica Pier, and the beach. It is a place were you feel free and you see lots of people interacting. One of my favorite restaurants to visit is Hook Burger, I usually order a burger, onion rings and a cold refreshing soft drink! Oh let’s not forget about Malibu beach, the drive is amazing and there is lots to see. I usually visit the small stores to grab some snacks and take a glance at the souvenirs. The people are usually laid back and friendly.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my journey to achieving my educational and business goals I had lots of support along the way. First I would like to honor my late mother Joann Neal. She was my biggest inspiration because she was so proud. Her energy gave me the hope I needed. On the other hand the days I felt like quitting I could imagine the disappointing look on her face. I could never have forgiven myself for causing my mom such pain. I also give thanks to my ancestors, they clearly paved the way for me to be in this position. Mike Evans from Chemeketa Community College who always expressed he believed in me. My Father Johnny Ray Neal Sr. for teaching me to never give up. Also I want to give thanks to Chemeketa Community College faculty & support staff, Portland State University faculty & support staff and Grand Canyon University faculty & support staff. Last but not least my immediate family.
