We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamei Lauren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamei, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

My thought process was very strategic in the journey of starting my business and here’s why!

I started my business during a critical time for the entire world, which was the 2020 pandemic due to the Covid-19 virus. When the pandemic happened I knew that I wanted to start a business just didn’t know where I wanted to start my process.

I was able to take the much needed down time to sit, think and plan for what is now my pandemic baby business, as I call it, By Jamei Lauren, LLC.

I knew I didn’t want to spend months of downtime wasting away so I took full advantage of my time to map out what I needed to start my business. I knew I wanted to start an affordable business that, even in a pandemic, would thrive. My goal was to get all that I needed to start the business for 1k or less. I was definitely successful and I was able to triple my start up cost profit in the 48 hours!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My Business, By Jamei Lauren, LLC., is a self titled hair accessories business that was founded by myself in the middle of the 2020 pandemic. My business was created for ladies of all ages to express their own version of creativity and style within their hair. Each accessory was hand selected to meet the needs of ladies who are stylish, trendy and unique! At By Jamei Lauren we like to let our accessories do the talking!

I am most proud about the progress and relationships that I have made since starting up the business. My entire world went from working a 9-5 daily to putting in blood sweat and tears into starting up a business in such a critical time for us all. I am proud of how much I have learned in the process which helped me to be knowledgeable about a new business venture.

I got to where I am today business wise by being 100% focused and dedicated as well as determined to get my business off the ground. Now to answer the question- was it easy? I would say no it wasn’t easy, but wasn’t hard either. With hard work and dedication anything is possible. I was able to overcome the few obstacles that I faced by educating myself in those areas as well as learned to embrace even the tough moments that helped shaped where the growth of the business is today.

The lessons I learned along the way are: patients is key, learn to pivot ,gracefully and lastly, start with what you have and you can perfect it later! All three of these ideas helped By Jamei Lauren continue to thrive along the way as well as helped me grow as an individual and a business woman.

I want the world to know that By Jamei Lauren is here to stay and this is only the beginning for us!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

If I had a trip planned for a best friend that was in town I would lay it out just like this. I would have to let her experience the Santa Monica pier as well as Venice beach to experience the beach culture.

I would also have to take her to the Grove. Some local eateries I love that she must experience is Dr. Grubbs, Tender Greens, Necter, Javiers, just to name a few! I also love the Perch for fun drinks and you can’t forget about the Crazy Taco food truck and for dessert Little Damage has the perfect soft serve ice cream to enjoy. Lastly, we cant forget about a local Dodger or Laker game to close out the week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out dedication goes out to my fiancé Damar Jackson. I can honestly say that not only does he support any idea I may come up with, but also encourages me daily and has also shaped me into a knowledgeable business woman. I gained a lot of my confidence in areas that were new to me from his guidance and I am so grateful to have a man like him by side, every step of the way!
