We had the good fortune of connecting with Casha Doemland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casha, how does your business help the community?
Allies of Mother Earth is a local organization dedicated to showing some much-needed love to the planet via hosting cleanups around the city of Los Angeles, fostering a community around eco-conscious living, and creating a platform to share eco-tips and tricks, news, and interviews.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve had a few paths since moving to Los Angeles five years ago, but ultimately I am a freelance creative. My first venture, and the passion that has my heart, is writing. I do not have a degree in writing or a degree at all, for that matter, but I managed to pitch a few publications and publish a few articles before getting offered a full-time position as a staff writer. Throughout the beginning stages, my writing portfolio consisted of my blog, “Georgia Peach in the LA Heat,” and a platform I started called “We Are Phenomenal,” which was dedicated to interviewing women and gender non-binary individuals about their greatest passions. Slowly throughout three years, I served as a staff writer for two publications and even dabbled in sustainability writing, which led me to create Allies of Mother Earth.

Allies of Mother Earth began as an Instagram page of solo cleanups that slowly crew into events and a full-fledged platform that incorporates eco-tips, tricks, news updates, and interviews. The organization is a little over two-years-old and still remains a one-human show, but I hope to change that over the next couple of years. I am currently returning to college for my Bachelor’s Degree in Geography with a minor in Geology to help bring things to the next level.

As far as prop styling and set design, this started on a whim. I am grateful to have a handful of friends and a partner who are photographers and were so down to test with me over the last year to build up my portfolio.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Off the top of my head, my favorite spots in the city are as follows

Eateries:
JiST Cafe – the chashu pork and pancakes are incredible
Aloha Cafe – the best corned beef hash in the city
Breadlam – a new sandwich spot in the Arts District that has quickly become a go-to spot
Menoh – my favorite ramen spot
Wurstkuche – the BEST fries
Sunny Blue – Omusubis galore

Outdoor Excursions:
Hikes: Sandstone Peak in the Santa Monica Mountains, M*A*S*H Hike in Malibu Creek State Park + Griffith Park
Beaches: Point Dume, Will Rogers (it’s dog-friendly) + El Matador (the cliffs are gorgeous)
Echo Park: I used to live a block up from the park, and picnics on the grass is one of my favorite pastimes.

Day Trips:
Joshua Tree National Park is an adventure in itself and is great for hiking, climbing, and camping. We could also stop off in Palm Springs or Cabazon to see the dinosaurs.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful to each human who has been apart of my journey.. My community both within Los Angeles, and across the world, have both inspired and motivated me to become the human I am today.
