We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Hanna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, what role has risk played in your life or career?
A few years ago I would have described risk as something that is to be afraid of. Something scary and dangerous. Now I describe risk as one of the most essential parts of building a business and accomplishing any goal. I have found that especially in a creative line of work that taking risks is the best way to boost creativity and find new opportunities. A few years ago I was too afraid to leave my hometown and pursue my dream of making music videos. I wasn’t sure if I had what it takes to work as a creative. Eventually, I worked up the courage to move to California and go all-in on what I thought was most important. That being pursuing my career goals and getting the best education possible to help me in that career. Taking that risk and diving headfirst into the deep end was the single best decision I ever made. That decision opened me up to create many meaningful connections, whether that be friends or colleges, and gave me new opportunities to start doing the work I had always dreamed of. Art doesn’t come from a place of comfort. Risk and struggle are essential parts of the creative process. Risk is now something I see as a positive and beneficial part of my workflow rather than something to be fearful of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The journey to where I am today was definitely not easy and i know i still have a long way to go to get where i want to be. I have learned many things over the past few years including the importance of collaboration, communication, and being able to take criticism. My goal is to spread the work and stories of upcoming talented artists. There is so much unappreciated talent out there. Through videography I want to bring to life the music of those around me and create powerful moments that can inspire younger generations. I am excited to continue collaborating with talents artists and creatives to bring visuals to stories that are inspiring and important.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While only having lived in Los Angeles for a short time there is a few sports i would have to take my friend. I would start the trip off with a good view and photo spot. Above the grand central market in downtown Los Angeles there is a parking garage with an incredible view. It is a great spot ot enjoy the sunset and take amazing photos for instagram. For food i would have to take them to Roscos House of Chicken and Waffles, by far one of the the best meals i’ve had in Los Angles. Aside from those places a day in Malibu is always a good time. The beach is great and there are lots of good hikes in the area. A great resturant in Malibu is Geoffrey’s on Pacific Coat Hwy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my high school teacher Jeremy Cromer who was taught the video production class at my high school. He encouraged me, inspired me and helped me get some of my first big projects as a filmmaker. He always went the extra mile and genuinly cared about his job and his students. Without him or that class I dont think I would have pursued a career in video production.
