We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mia, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
If you know anything about me, you already know my end goal: I want to win an Emmy! Not as an actress, but as someone who creates and produces amazing television. Being quarantined in 2020 has been good for me professionally and creatively. While I still write for Trustworthy Magazine, I have a boutique public relations agency and I created a production company called, Artistic Lens Productions. In the past few months, I have created and produced several shows for a few of my clients on various social media platforms. I also have numerous ideas that I would like to create and see on the telly. Where do I want to be professionally by the end of my career? I want to hear, “The award for Best New Television Show goes to Mia Nicole” – those are words that I have wanted to hear since I was 8 years old. Being recognized for my ability to create good, interesting television is constantly on my mind. Watching TV (or even a movie) with me might not be fun because I watch from a creative standpoint. I scrutinize the plot, the location, the acting, even the continuity of each scene. I also read the opening and closing credits because the first thing I want to know was who created the show. I also want to be a producer.  Maybe I am dreaming, but looking back to my Girl’s Trip in November 2019 in LA, I wonder if that might be an indication of where my career could end up. We were invited by a Hollywood talent manager to a movie screening. When he explained over the phone that it was at the Television Academy, I was shocked. What was more interesting was that he is a member as well. Walking up and seeing that beautiful, giant Emmy, made my heart drop. Again, I heard my acceptance speech in my head. Looking up at the larger-than-life golden statue, I turned to my 2 friends and said, “I am going to win that one day!” After uttering those words, imagine my surprise when I heard a sweet voice next to me saying, “From your lips to God’s ears young lady.” We didn’t even see the older lady sitting next to us and as we entered the building, I realized that she too was a member of the Academy. Being there was truly a blessing for me and one that I will never forget. I want to be able to look back at everything that I have done, open the large cabinet housing my many awards and feel how Sally Fields did when she said, “You like me! You really like me!” Thank you Academy!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I said before, I really enjoy writing for Trustworthy Magazine because I get to meet and write about some of the most interesting people on the planet. It is an international lifestyle magazine where we share authentic and unique stories from people around the world. Writing is something that I have always done. Since I was a kid, I wrote and told stories to my younger sister and brother.  I saw myself as the female version of Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes. I watched “A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney” all the time and it was then that I fell in love with satire. There is nothing that I have not thought about writing: a book, a play, television show, film, documentary – you name it! Fortunately, being a writer has also helped me with my boutique public relations agency, Taliaferro Entertainment Group, where I am the CEO.  People often ask me about the name Taliferro; there is a story and it might be odd, but let’s just say it’s a “family name.” As a publicist, I have to write every day. I mean every day! Between pitching our clients to various media outlets, preparing interesting news releases, creating engaging social media post, campaigns for clients, can be a lot. But I enjoy every minute of it! My business partner Patrick and I try to make sure our clients know that we are truly invested in their success. My “there is a method to my madness” creativity works with my clients. It might sound crazy at first, but trust me, once you connect that dots, it all makes sense. As a team, we take their business so seriously that sometimes, I can’t sleep. I am always wondering what I could have done better. Or if that was the best move for that campaign. That is a challenge – trying not to drive myself crazy! To see a client’s brand grow from just a concept to being internationally known is exciting. I have a mentor who has been in the business 34 years and she is amazing! When I run across something that I have never done or not sure if my idea is a good one, Anje is always there for me and I appreciate her. One lesson that I have learned in life, is that good relationships are important. It’s not just about you – you will always need others to help you get to where you are going. I am a team player and I always look out for others. I am grateful to everyone that has helped me along the way to get to where I am now. Something else I have learned is, never burn bridges. I read a quote (I love quotes) that said, “People burn their bridges until they realize they’re stranded and then it’s too late.” If I can help someone I will. If I can’t, I will let them know.  It’s not all about me. My story is my story, and their story is theirs. And it is my job as a writer and publicist to make sure that I tell their story to the world correctly.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Malibu. The Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market is one of my most favorite seafood places. Between the mountains and the ocean it is the most peaceful place to be. The Santa Monica Pier is a great place to take people that have never been to California. And of course Venice Beach! If they want to feel like they are in Italy, the Venice Canals – nothing more beautiful! And you never know, you might just see a film crew there! Universal City Walk is a great place to visit. You can’t come to Los Angeles and not see the iconic Hollywood Sign! But then you have La Jolla & San Diego – can you say gorgeous! If we ever move our Trustworthy office from Glendale, I suggest La Jolla!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Editor-in-Chief Amina Touray is amazing! I truly appreciate her for giving me the opportunity to interview some of the most amazing people in the entertainment industry. She allows me to be as creative as I want to be with my writing and I am grateful for that!
