Meet Jason Tanzer: I do things. Sometimes they’re good.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Tanzer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved music and wanted to be a part of it. As I got older and the business of music became more interesting, I found myself frustrated that people were sharing music for free. I then turned my attention to professional outlets like becoming a hired gun, production shows, and cover bands. I was lucky enough to be able to jump right into the field but quickly realized I didn’t like how talent agents were treating artists as commodities rather than individual talents. I also saw there was a void in the market for fresh new ideas. Since I was already a musician and producer, it seemed achievable to start creating and booking my own shows.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a songwriter, I’d like to believe what makes me unique is honesty. As a performer, I try to be an open channel. As a photographer, I love unbiased observational, street. As a writer, I hope to simplify our common experience. As a producer, I work to make life a bit more fun. As a human, I aspire to be a reflection of what I see, hear and feel; a mirror. All of these are works in progress with no end in sight, and that is exciting!
I have never really been helped by the entertainment world. No one has ever welcomed me in without a fuss, and most everything I have ever achieved I had to imagine, create, and market on my own. It has given me enormous admiration for the pros and endless humility for the work. If you’re lucky, every so often you do something just right and it puts a big smile on your face and hopefully others. But most of the time, you are trying to recalculate the kick because the goalpost moved just before you could set. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My biggest takeaway from the journey so far: if no one you currently know likes what you’re creating, find a new audience that does.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Eat: VegeNation or Tacotarian for lunch and Tarantino’s Vegan, Chikyū Vegan Sushi Bar or Hussong’s Cantina for dinner Drink: Double Helix Wine & Whiskey Lounge, The Hostile Grape
Hang Out: The Golden Tiki, Area 15, 107 SkyLounge, Don’t Tell Mama, Cafe Lola, Fremont Street Experience, The Park, The LINQ Promenade + Experience, Mandalay Bay Beach, Absinthe, Carnaval Court, Fountains of Bellagio

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my brother for setting the standard of respect high enough to be a constant work in progress, and to mortality for keeping me inspired, humbled, and continually questioning everything.
