Meet Kenia Mauricio | Company owner and performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenia Mauricio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenia, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since a young age art is something that has come naturally to me. Over my life I have explored mostly all artistic outlets. I would claim that Pursuing an artistic career is something that my genetics chose for me. Life would always take me in the direction of artistic expression and I always embraced it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I own a party entertainment company where we specialize in princess visits for children’s birthday parties. My company is named my Dream come true princess parties because it truly is a dream come true for me. I mixed my love for performing, children, and being an entrepreneur and I built a cast full of talented performers who also love what they do. It is important for me to make sure our clients get the royal treatment they deserve so I work diligently in every aspect of the business. I train my performers, style wigs, wash costumes, fix costumes, make costumes, handle social media, do all the photography, speak with clients, follow up with clients, and try my best to keep my cast as happy as possible, because when they’re happy we’re all happy !
I began my journey with “party princessing” four years ago. I was going to cal state Fullerton and I was auditioning every chance I got to Disneyland entertainment. While I was getting close to landing the job the rejection was disheartening I knew I had lots to offer and I wanted to get a chance. At one of the auditions I met a girl who did princess parties, and having grown up in San. Diego that came at such a surprise to me. I had no idea this was a thing. So the next day I began sending my resume to any and every princess company I could find in Orange County.
I got the job at a couple and worked for almost two years with other companies. The journey was not hard but a little disheartening.
Although unique, the princess party industry is a little saturated in Orange County. A lot of company owners are not doing it because they love it but for the profit and some what prestige of being “princesses”. The industry is cut throat and I quickly found myself feeling unappreciated, underpaid, and disrespected.
I began accumulating my own costumes and began freelancing. I advertised my self to my family and friends and soon I was doing events for their friends and family. Right before the pandemic hit I got the opportunity to purchase other costumes and took the leap. Thankfully, I knew lots of other talented performers who were excited to be a part of my journey.
Unfortunately the pandemic hit and because our work is everything you need to avoid with corona and we had to stop services for nearly a year. We still offered virtual messages and phone calls and Recently we have slowly been going back to our normal services with porch side visits.
It’s been a slow journey but ultimately I do this because it’s so rewarding. The children love to see their favorite character come to life and seeing my cast make dreams come true makes my heart so happy. I take so much pride in paying close attention to every detail and making sure our services are of the highest quality while still letting our love shine through.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week I would show her all around Orange and LA County. I’m a sucker for views so each day we would fit in at least one. I Love going to the observatory for a good view and a walk. And I love this amazing 360 view in Rowland heights. I also love the beach my favorites are pretty much every beach in Laguna and although not my favorite I would have to show them the iconic Venice and Santa Monica. I would try to visit friends in the area and have a little get together while they were here. And lastly take them to my favorite restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to take a moment to thank my friends and family and fiancé. Without their constant support and kindness I would not be where I am today. I am so lucky to have them. Specifically my parents who have sacrificed so much to give my family a better life. They taught me the importance of believing in my self and shooting for the stars.
