We had the good fortune of connecting with Christie Huff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christie, we’d love to hear about your parent’s parenting philosophy and the role it played in your development.
When I think of my parents the first word that comes to mind when describing them is supportive. From day one they have supported me in every aspect of my life whether that be in school, sports, and even my career. I have only realized since growing up what their parenting style was and how it really affected me. My parents disciplined but never in a way that seemed like they were punishing me, they had expectations but never made me feel less than for not achieving certain goals. In fact they built a strong foundation with me and my sisters and spoke to us like a friend. That made us want to come and talk to them about our problems and success stories. The strong easy going relationship my parents built with me as a kid has followed me into adulthood. Now they are the first people I want to call when I book a big show, need career advice, and just talk to about everyday life. My parents are so supportive of my decision in pursuing a career in music and whenever I get discouraged they are the first ones to encourage me to keep at it. There is a strong confidence you get when your parents believe in you. I truly believe that the accomplishments I’ve had in my life were made possible because I have always felt like I have allies behind me no matter what. Their support means everything and I’m very lucky to have the parents I do have!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Christie Huff and I am a Country singer/songwriter. I am a completely independent artist and am luck enough to split my time between LA and Nashville. My journey started about 6 years ago when I moved to Los Angeles to follow my dreams. Because of my persistence and desire to succeed at my career I have been on many self booked tours across the US, have gotten to perform oversees in London, and have opened up for major artists such as Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Billy Currington, Kip Moore, and Bebe Rexha. It hasn’t been easy, but every no I’ve received eventually there is a yes. One thing I’ve always tried to remember in everything, is that the reason I do everything is for the music, and the , music starts with a song. I have found my most successful song are songs that come from the heart. This last year I crossed off a major milestone in my career and had my song “Black and White” receive over 3 million streams on Spotify. The reason why “Black and White” had the success it has is because it is a song that people connect with because it came from a personal place. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in my musical journey is that hard work and staying true to writing music that is personal to me will get me to where I want to be. A music career is a marathon not a sprint, and I have learned to enjoy the journey with the highs and the lows.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love Los Angeles! It is my favorite city in the whole world! In my opinion the must do’s in LA are of course some of the tourist spots, but also the hidden gems. If my friend was visiting for a whole week we would start the week by going to brunch at The Killer Cafe in Marina del Rey, then walk around the marina and go paddle boarding. Then by the afternoon we would go over to Abbott Kinney in Venice to get our Salt N Straw fix and then of course take Instagram worthy pictures along the heart wall on Abbott Kinney. We would finish the night eating dinner at Sugarfish for sushi and then head straight to Cliftons Cafeteria for Dancing! We would of course have to check out Griffith Observatory and hike The Hollywood sign, and then go get empanadas at the grove’s farmers market. The last day, we would have to go for a hike in Malibu and then eat lunch at Malibu Fish Market.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to Spotify for all their support and mentorship they have given me in my career! Thank you for all the support Spotify!
