Meet Sascia Schloemer | Wedding Planner & Designer of Customized Event Props

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sascia Schloemer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sascia, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me a creative career means freedom. Freedom to create what I love. Freedom to work with people that inspire me and lift me up. Freedom to work flexible hours. Freedom to share my creativity with others. Freedom to be who I want to be and most importantly, freedom to create a slice of happiness for others.

My creative career allows me to create beautiful experiences and products for sometimes the most special occasions in peoples lives and that fills me with the ultimate joy. I have always been a person that loves to give rather than take and in a way, I made a career out of that. I get to interact with people on a daily basis and be responsible to make their events unique and personalized. The fulfillment I feel when everything comes together on the day of an event or when I receive a clients feedback to one of my personalized products, is priceless and I feel very grateful and fulfilled to be in the creative industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Wedding Planner and I also run a laser cutting studio for custom event props such as signages, escort cards, cake toppers and more. My journey started when I went to Southeast Asia for an internship during university working for a wedding planner there. I instantly fell in love with the diversity of the profession and that every event/wedding tells its own story and I get to create something magical out of peoples love stories.
Being a wedding planner has many facets. It potentially means you are in charge of bringing your clients vision to life but at the same time it is your job to educate and navigate your clients during the planning process even if that means telling them that their dream venue is not in their budget unless they get married on a weekday. Communication and trust are very crucial and it is important to build a good relationship with your clients in order to bring together an A-team of vendors for their special day.

I moved to the United States in 2019 from Germany to start my very own business as a wedding planner and only 6 months later, the pandemic hit and the events industry was shut down from one day to the next and we went from visualizing beautiful nuptials to postponing until further notice. That was a big shock and I was unsure how to navigate it at first but eventually I realized, I could still be a part of peoples special occasions even if in a slightly different way.
This is when I launched “Blissful Props”, an online shop for all kinds of personalized event props made from acrylic. We now receive orders for cake toppers from parents throwing their twins a birthday bash in their backyard to 500 custom name cards for a big wedding by the beach in Mexico. A lot has changed in the past 12 months and Blissful Diaries can now cater to all kinds of events, big or small, social or corporate and our custom acrylic creations transform into keepsakes for many years to come.

Navigating a pandemic as a very young small business was definitely a big challenge but in hindsight I am very thankful that it opened the possibility for an additional creative career for me that I am very passionate about. It is true what they say, when one door (temporarily) closes, another one opens and in my case, my business grew bigger and quicker than I had initially anticipated and I am very grateful for that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has so many beautiful sites to visit. I would take them on a hike in Ruyon Cayon, spend a day at the beach in Malibu, stroll through Malibu Village and if it’s the first Friday of the month, I’d take my bestie to the food trucks on Abbot Kinney – one of my favorite things to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe that I am able to pursue my creative career as freely as I am today thanks to my family. From a very young age, my parents always told me that I could pursue whatever career I wanted in life as long as it makes me happy. I always knew, I would end up in a career where I could contribute to other peoples happiness and I wholeheartedly hope that is what I am currently doing.
