We had the good fortune of connecting with Prince of the Ghetto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Prince of the Ghetto, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I use my art to galvanize and uplift humanity. I believe my compassion for people sets me apart from others. My proudest accomplishment is being a positive impression on the youth. My journey as a writer began in high school. I was in a creative writing class my senior year and fell in love with expressing my feelings through words. With the encouragement of my teacher, Mike the Poet, I began performing poetry at local open mics. After a year of performing locally I received an opportunity to perform in New York, I was 18 years old. Since then I have performed across the country as a poet/mc, hosted writing workshops for youth, wrote for artists, wrote for newspapers/magazines, wrote and performed in commercials, hosted shows & organized events in my community. These are are great accomplishments however they didn’t come overnight! The journey from shy student in the back of creative writing class to ‘Prince of the Ghetto’ the artivist was far from smooth. During my time as an artist many challenges have arose. Life’s chaotic nature is inevitable. We will always face challenges, they key is to have patience and be persistent. Throughout my journey I’ve learned many things. I’ll share a few: don’t to take things personally, communication is fundamental to success, no one owes you anything, count on yourself, think positively, remove all negative people/things from your life, love what you do and have fun, affirm and visualize your dreams. I want the world to know that Prince of the Ghetto believes in and promotes the power of community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a huge nature lover! Any trail, beach or park I’m there! A few of my favorite places are Chaney Trail(Alta Dena), Bluff Clove Overlook (Palos Verdes), Malibu Beach, Griffith Park Observatory(Los Feliz), Kenneth Hahn(Los Angeles), Los Angeles County Arboretum (Arcadia)

I love seeing artists perform! A few of my favorite venues are World Stage (Leimert Park), The Palladium (Hollywood), The Theater at Ace Hotel (Downtown La), Nate Holden Performing Arts Center ( Midtown LA)

Some of my favorite places to eat are Simply Wholesome (Los Angeles), Earle’s On Crenshaw ( Los Angeles), Hot and Cool Cafe (Los Angeles), Azla (Los Angeles) Dulan’s (Los Angeles)

I don’t hang out much. I love to be in creative spaces in my free time I’ll got to my studio to write/record music or to the park to read a book, paint, meditate or workout. If not that I’m building with my friends and family.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shot out to my ancestors, my family, and my community.
