We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Flaherty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bridget, what do you attribute your success to?
There’s a lot to be said for consistency. Releasing two podcasts each week on their respective days goes a long way to create a relationship with our audience. Also, meeting the same time each week to record helps production stay on schedule.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am producing and hosting two podcasts: Sex With Ghosts and The Gossier. On Sex With Ghosts, we present eerie topics and conspiracies. It’s usually something that’s familiar to me but new to my co-host Mollie McBreen. Mollie and I met in college at the University of Iowa. I knew we’d be friends when she said she was majoring in geography because she, “liked maps.” She’s a very genuine person which I love dearly.

On The Gossier, we discuss gossip about celebrities, politicians, and anything else in the zeitgeist. We usually do 3-4 segments. I host this with a fellow comedian Grace Piper. Grace and I met through The Second City, and we were kinda known to a few for our goss seshes. It really felt natural to do this show with her.

I guess you could say I’m creating these pods because of the pandemic. A little over a year ago, I was managing a local comedy theater and performing a few times a week. Once theater closed due to Covid-19, I had to pivot. Luckily, on the eve before she got hitched, Mollie (my cohost on Sex With Ghosts) had planted a seed to start a podcast together. Mollie has had some experience with being on some shows, and it’s also fortunate that she was still interested in the idea a couple years later.

The biggest challenge has been trusting myself. Prior to creating a podcast, I think I did a guest spot on an episode of a friend’s pod. Almost everything I have learned about podcasts has been a trial and error game. Sometimes I second guess myself, but more and more, I am realizing I have great instincts for creating. I should trust them. I mean heck, I used to do stand up comedy for strangers, and I did get a BFA in art. It all informs each other. I’m just really proud that I am working through challenges and making things that feel both honest and entertaining. I guess you could say that’s my brand – to be authentically funny,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh boy! This is a sport between my partner and me. We love to talk about where we would take people. Go Get ‘Em Tiger and Dayglow for coffee. Breakfast tacos at Homestate. Grand Central Market for a little lunch food tour. We have a lot of Chicago family and friends so we try to impress them with LA pizza: Jon & Vinny’s, Pizzeria Mozza, and Masa. Guelaguetza for mole, and Tacos 1985 for tacos. Sunset drinks at the Malibu Pier. Night + Market Song for life changing curry. Ace Hotel for rooftop drinks. There are also some spots around downtown, like the Biltmore, that I like to show people that have an old history or are rumored to be haunted. The Last Bookshop is always a winning spot to show visitors, as is Griffith Park Observatory. Also, recently went to Huntington Library for the first time, and found it to be very enjoyable. Walking around the Venice Canals. If it’s long trip from a visitor, we’ve been known to make a day trip to Santa Barbara or Palm Springs. I really love Los Angeles so much! Between the food and landscape, there’s definitely plenty to do here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my partner, Michael. He’s my biggest cheerleader.
