We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
It is all about discipline. Learning when to slow down and take a step back is really important. Do not lose sight of why you started a small business in the first place. For me, discipline means making a schedule and to-do list to help me stay on track. It also means taking breaks and spending time with my family and doing other things I enjoy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been making jewelry for about 10 years now. I was nervous about taking the leap into metalsmithing because some of the processes can be a bit daunting. 3 years ago I jumped in a never looked back. I have learned mostly by making mistakes but I am so proud of where I am today. It was not an easy road, and there are still plenty of bumps along the way. I would say most of the challenges are personal ones like imposters syndrome, and. not being happy with what the final product is. I have learned to just keep pushing forward and not dwelling on things that didn’t work out and try again.

Smith & Stone Co. creates handcrafted one-of-a-kind sterling silver adornments with an old-world feel. Inspired by the beauty and wonder of Mother Earth, the Occult, Ancient Cultures, Alchemy, and Witchcraft featuring natural gemstones and crystals.

Hand-forged in Los Angeles by Artist Samantha Rowe, who has been making jewelry for the last 10 years and is self-taught in the art of Metalsmithing. Her Husband, Nathanial Rowe, is a lapidary artist and provides some of the natural gemstones and crystals that are set in Smith & Stone Co. jewelry.

Each piece is created using traditional metalsmith techniques. All designs are hand-sawn, soldered, sanded, and polished with the greatest attention to detail, making each piece a unique work of art. We believe in quality over quantity and want to create future heirlooms that are meant to be worn and loved.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really love the natural places that are around Los Angeles. I would plan to take my friend to Descanso Gardens, Griffith Park, Huntington Library, and the LA Arboretum. We would go to eat at places like Perch, really anywhere that has a rooftop bar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This might be cliche but I want to thank my Mom and Husband for all of their love and support. They both continue to push me to be better and support me 100%.
