Meet Alejandro Chavez | Bar Manager and Creative Solutions Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandro, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had the dream of being my own boss. My idea lived in my mind for a long time before I had the courage to invest in myself and take that risk. During 2020 lockdowns, I had much more time, and a lot less income coming in because of the situation world wide. This sparked the fire to look for alternative sources of income, being that my day job was affected. With this extra pressure I was driven to finally start my own business, ( which is still a work in progress) BUT none the less, starting was the hardest part for me. Completely worth it though.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art journey started at a very young age. I was introduced to the underground art world, at Atzlan- 19th street jail- in the mid/late 90s. My dad and his friends started a collective to give back to their community and youth, by teaching the elements of the creative process. That moment opened my mind up to art and the liberation that came with it. That experience ultimately lead me to graffiti, and poster making, hip hop, punk music, guerrilla art, anything having to do with the counter culture. The process’s that came with street art, mural making, poster making, prints, etc, all became part of my own process when creating. I feel it is crucial to have a message, especially one the makes you wonder, or gives you faith, or simply provokes deeper thoughts; which is something I try to incorporate into my art. It part of the reason I call myself ArtRebel.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would travel to some of the awesome gardens we have around LA. Descanso or Huntington Gardens. Also I would hit up all the museums I could for some inspiration. Then I would explore the eateries in downtown, Smorgesborg, East LA, hit up the bars and food spots in Highland Park, and maybe finish up in Pasadena area. My favorite part of LA in the North East LA

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Parents, friends and family all deserve credit for where I am today. I don’t know where I would be without a loving and nurturing support group. Without that support who knows If I would ever have the courage to believe in myself. Also, the influence throughout the years also adds to who I am and why I do the things I do. My dad, mom and sister, for never giving up on me, my immediate family and cousins for always teaching me and sharing opportunities with me as well. And of course my friends, who inspire me, support me, and are always there to lift me up. Im grateful for the people in my life, abundantly blessed is an understatement.
