We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce Edwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bruce, what matters most to you?
I understand one’s value to be defined as “a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life.” As such, the value that matters most to me in business and life in general, is honesty and integrity. If one is dishonest or can be bought off in order to go against what they know is right, then they are not someone we should be around. The other very important principle is “are they trying to do good in the world?” If for example, a person is working in an industry, and that industry is one of the top leading causes of death in society, then that is a reflection on the integrity of that person and I have no use for that. I want to be around people that are seeking to better themselves and others, and improve the conditions of life and that of others. Most artists, by their very existence fit that definition, as the arts generally entertain, and uplift humanity. The third most important value to me in business and life is a positive mental attitude. Pessimism decreases one’s chances for success, and usually makes a person feel bad. Conversely, optimism creates conditions in the physical world that increase one’s chances of that ideal, successful state becoming reality. And it feels good to be optimistic. We are not meant to make others suffer or be masochistic.  Freedom and liberty are also of paramount importance to me which we should never take for granted.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What makes us different from others in our field is that there are only two other companies out there that cover most all of the areas we do, but we have other management divisions that no one else has. I also feel we have more autonomy because we are not beholden to anyone like some others in our field are. Most importantly, the fact that our entire business is guided by a positive spiritual mission makes us pretty unique.

What am I most excited about? Definitely the current script I am writing and producing, as well as the other producing projects, and two new business divisions we are launching this year that will help artists and entrepreneurs make great money. I’m also excited about a few books of poetry I have written that I am finishing editing and publishing this year. And I’m very thankful that our business success has enabled us to put more time, money and effort into our charitable division of helping more abused and trafficked kids.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise?

I started in the music industry by self publishing a punk rock fanzine / turned magazine. This enabled me to learn many aspects of the music industry including PR, A&R, tour support, event production, band and concert photography, and more. This also led me to working in the film industry as a journalist. I then majored in music and then eventually film, graduated from film school, and did an internship as a Production Assistant. I then got my first job as a Reader (reading scripts for producers and writing coverage on them), and then my next job as a talent scout, and soon after that as an agency receptionist, agent, and then booker. This enabled me to learn and master the agency / management world.

Was it easy?

Never. I have always put my art and integrity above money. It’s not easy doing that if you start from nothing or close to nothing. I have literally skipped meals to instead have the gas money to drive 240 miles round trip to see and interview great bands. Now I drive electric!

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

-Never let someone else’s bad mood ruin your day.
-If you are in a bad mood, try to avoid people. Wait until you are in a peak state.
-Improve your mind, body, and emotions daily.
-Surround yourself with positive people who are doing what you want to do.
-If you want something enough, never take no for an answer. Just find a way and do it.
-If someone rejects you and you have to go over their head to get where you want to be,
don’t tell them you did so. They may be resentful and may try destroy you.
-Be positive and optimistic in your actions, thoughts, words, and self-talk.
-Don’t allow negative losers, druggies, or negativity into your life.
-Think less and do more.
-If someone regularly makes you feel bad about pursuing your dreams and goals, and tells you to get a “real job” or “be realistic,” you may want to consider getting them out of your life.
-What we think is generally how we feel. And how we feel is generally how our world is.
Think and act NOW how you want your future to be.

-Make time to work out, get out in nature, and meditate daily. Making the time to care for your body and mind will greatly increase your productivity and creativity. It will also help make you more healthy, and make you treat yourself and others better. The way the world treats you is generally reflected in how you treat yourself.

-Do what you love, and have fun doing what you do. If you are not having fun, what’s the point? We are not here to suffer.

-Help others after you have made it. Give back.
