We had the good fortune of connecting with SPLYCE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SPLYCE, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking into consideration the risks involved with any new venture is both responsible, and essential for your future with the business. While the thought of the risks can be overwhelming, the risk factors need to also be equally weighed with the potential rewards, both seen and unforeseen (which there will be many unforeseen rewards, both financial and other!)

From a financial perspective, allowing the risks to hinder your progress would be unfortunate because ultimately, you want to find yourself doing something you love. If you’re able to do something you love, the risks do get smaller and smaller. Often times when people find and do what they love, they don’t get bored at all, or as easily. They may get frustrated, challenged, and sometimes hopeless, but as they push through, the outcome reveals a brighter future in which they learn a lot about themselves and the business, and furthermore their knowledge and confidence builds.

As a DJ and music producer, every single day as a musician and artist is a risk. As long as performance bookings continue, and I am requested to create original music, remixes, and studio projects, I am able to humbly continue to provide these services. I’ve learned that it’s taken many years of building relationships, showing up on time with a good attitude, and giving my best to the client to gain their trust. My next moves are saving money, and spending strategically. These minimize my concerns for risks, but sometimes the thought of the risk keep you on your game!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Above all else, I consider myself a sensitive artist. I am a DJ and musician, both performing events around the globe, while other times working on albums in the studio for months at a time. One of my most proud moments was being asked to be a featured guest on CNN’s Larry King Live, which aired in 210 countries. Shortly after I began a career traveling to places like Switzerland, Rome, Aruba, Maui, Jamaica, Antigua, Romania, Hawaii, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, and across the United States to perform. As a DJ based in Los Angeles, I’ve performed for movie premiers, fashion shows, celebrity birthdays and private events, glamorous weddings, political events, corporate events and more.

I began DJing as a hobby, and honestly never thought it could be a real career or lifelong journey. I was encouraged to graduate from college with a bachelors degree. One thing that sets me apart from some other DJ’s is my formal education, all the way through completion. While I am proud of this, and of course this can add a tremendous value to one’s life, I don’t believe it is necessary in finding success in the music industry, as some of the most brilliant and creative artists are far superior in their craft to others with these degrees. The talent goes beyond any kind of structured education.

I credit my abilities to network, and problem solve with helping me get to where I am today on my journey. Connecting with people and finding mutually beneficial relationships will prove invaluable. I make sure I’m able to find specific people who are as excited about a project as I am, because the right energy matched up will push the outcome to be better than anything you could have imagined. Once a bit of success starts to tip in your direction, the snowball effect of the momentum continues as more and better people will usually find you to continue to push the success. It is your responsibility though to be cautious and protect yourself from the people who try to convince you of their worth to your brand, but who really want to piggy back and use you for their own selfish cause. This was a lesson I had to learn unfortunately more than once. The ride can feel like it’s moving so fast, and I naturally want to be a people pleaser, so I naturally would say yes to everyone for a while. However in time, you quickly learn this is better for everyone else, and at some point you have to start saying no and do what’s best for you. In my particular case, having the honor to be a guest on a globally acclaimed platform, my credibility was questioned, fellow DJ’s didn’t feel I deserved the opportunity and I was faced with a lot of criticism and unkind words behind the scenes. While a young, fresh, and excited young DJ, I didn’t fully understand why such deer friends turned on me so quickly, and was hurt and confused. In time though, I learned who my real friends were, and as my circle got smaller, my success and happiness grew larger. Time always tells.

Most recently I had the pleasure of recording David Hasselhoff in my recording studio for his upcoming album, “Party Your Hasselhoff” which was the experience of a lifetime.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This answer would entirely depend on my best friend! Assuming I had the most open minded, fun, and free spirited friend, there are so many fun activities we would be able to do in Los Angeles in the span of 1 week. The week would be divided into different sections and days. We would use some time for the beach and ocean. California has some of the most scenic and beautiful views, and the feeling of watching the waves crashing and feeling the breeze over your body is indescribable. We would have theme park days, where we hit all the fun theme parks in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas. LA theme parks offer the most grand experiences, amazing rides and pure fun! We would have restaurant days where we enjoy the delicacies of some of the most delicious restaurants on earth! Downtown LA, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, the San Fernando Valley, Malibu, Venice Beach, and many other nooks of LA offer such beautiful and unique characteristics. Oh, and I’ll be sure we grab a convertible for the endless sunshine! And of course, how could I forget, an amazing soundtrack to play throughout the week! I also love coffee so we would grab coffee all over LA!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey has been exhilarating, exciting, adventurous, unpredictable, and most importantly, the culmination of many amazing people, activities, organizations, and circumstances. I’ve been fortunate to attend the YMCA Summer Camp starting from the age of 9 as a recommendation from my immediate family, parents and grandparents.. Included in the camp curriculum was character building, values, ethics, and a perspective on the world that is so positive and up lifting. Being there made me want to be better, and I attribute many factors to how I carry myself to that time and place.

Of course, my immediate family also has instilled these same core values, and held me accountable throughout my life. My schooling, both the high school and University level taught me a work ethic. They taught me methods of being independent and resourceful to problem solve, and to push through the most challenging times, rather than quitting or giving up. After a while, we as humans get used to understanding the feelings we are feeling, and learning how to push through until we achieve a certain goal.
