We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Bohn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor about my success has been the people around me and battlerap. I couldn’t imagine where I’d be without people believing in me and wanting to work with me. So it’s the people around me that give me the success I have.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of the work that I’ve done, both instrument, singing, and writing wise. I’ve never given up, no matter how bad things got and I’ve continued to not quit. I attribute most of my success to not quiting and always making new music. It definitely wasn’t an easy road to this point in my life. I used to live here in california but due to covid i had to quit my job I had for 7 years installing commercial doors. I had just being signed and pushed on a label and covid killed the momentum and we lost it. So I ended up moving to Oklahoma and have been working mad hard to hone my guitar playing, beat making, and singing ability and try to branch out and its been working well. I’ve learned that you have to take risks, you gotta get out their. If you’ve got skills, the right people will notice and if you have fear, then use it to your advantage by controlling the fear itself instead of it controlling you. Perform live so you can know what it’s like in different scenarios, bars, clubs, fairs and stuff like that. I just want the world to know that all I wanna do is make people happy with the music I make. I want people to enjoy themselves and get excited cause they love what I made!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to the lake near my house, and show them nature! You could eat at the Beggs drive in, you just roll up order and eat very old fashioned. I could take them to tulsa and show them the downtown life in the bigger city. We could stay in the city I live and walk the square and shop, looking at the lighting bugs around the town hall building. I love nature, being in the woods is an amazing feeling, and being at the lake just to enjoy the day.. man it’s all the inspiration you need. So the cool places are the lakes, rivers, rodeos for sure and the wildlife preserves. Check out the center of the universe in tulsa, it’s crazy!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So first of all my fiance, Amber Mendoza, is the biggest supporter/fan I have and without her I wouldn’t be anywhere. She’s pushed me to do everything I’ve done musically, and always helps me with anything I need and makes me a better person and musician along the way! Justpierre is another dude I’d like to shout out, he’s a rapper outta Compton and he’s been a major help and step forward for me musically. He’s introduced me to alot of great people and been apart of my favorite projects. I would like to shoutout, Nu Jerzey twork as well cause if it weren’t for him none of these people would know who I am! Lastely id like to thank battlerap for existing and giving me opportunities I otherwise wouldn’t have.
