Meet Loris Anne Jones | Actor, Food Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Loris Anne Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Loris Anne, why did you pursue a creative career?
The arts is something that chose me. I was always interested in music, dancing, singing, any artistic expression, I welcomed it. It wasn’t until college that I allowed other people to dictate what happiness and success would look like for me, and the idea of an artistic career seemed unattainable. I was lost, overeducated and missing the spark that being creative ignites. I thought I had found my passion in food and wine, rekindling an ancestral path, and creativity was just a hobby. It was when I least expected, that the opportunity to join the most prestigious entertainment union walked into my job, literally. I spent almost two years wondering if it was really the right path for me, two years too long! I wish I could have shaken myself and said “GIRL THIS IS ALL FOR YOU!” Once I finally started believing in my artist, I began to work as an artist, across all of the platforms. I wanted to be in more and sometimes that means going through more uncomfortability. I seemed to have lost everything around me at one time, my support system, family, my home, everything except for art; I chose to let go. I soon found myself with more than before; sturdier, more dependable. A teacher Jen Seifert gave me an art space to feel safe in vulnerability. I found my place among my peers in Membership First advocating for my fellow union members. I welcomed a dog into my studio. Now I run LA LIFE, Inc, or more commonly known as Boozybushwick, an instagram influencer who eats her heart out in some killer fashion. Choosing art/creative for a career is really a desire to be able to live from the products of your passion. It is risky, but so are all good things.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Whew boy. I have led a duplicitous life. While it had its challenges, it ultimately made me the person I am today. I think that mix of highs and lows allows me to see things from a new perspective and I’ve learned how to adapt my skills in one area to suit the needs of another. This quick problem solving can itself be a problem, I’ve learned. lol. Sometimes you have to give someone what it is they are asking for, even if you know it’s not what they want, or what could be best. Sometimes it’s best to be slower, and just go with the flow.

That’s really why I’m so passionate about my production company, and serving my union. There’s only a few black faces in fine dining, and even fewer black sommeliers. Actors of color still face an uphill battle when it comes to casting, hair and makeup. I want to show people who’ve been through difficult circumstances, who may not feel as if they can see themselves on their screens, that someone who looks like them, been through similar things as them, is out there; that you are not alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
-Explore Little Tokyo & Chinatown. Visit the Far East Plaza in Chinatown after nomming on food vendor fruits and goodies. Hit up Lasita for late lunch then Majordomo for a 9pm rez.

-Highland Park! Stroll up and down York, stuff our faces with vegan donuts at Donut Friend. Brunch is a toss between Kitchen Mouse and Antigua Bread, but Hippo is the dinner spot for sure!

-Silverlake/Echo Park I like to combine these babies and get the most bang for your buck. Have some coffee at Stories, the best bookstore in all of LA, then grab a burger and cocktail at lowboy. Head up the road to Night + Market Song for dinner.

-Santa Monica (we all know this is two days. one day is purely just a beach bum day. maybe we turn it into a cabana day at the Proper Hotel but who knows. ) <3 Grab a trendy bevvy at Phils or Sunlife Organics then hightail it down the boardwalk to

Venice Beach! Along Rose Ave are tons of cute out of the way cafes and wine bars filled with locals.

Taking a drive down Mulholland is a must for any trip with me. I love museums and one of my favorites is also in

-DTLA! Hauser + Wirth is an all day museum with wings dedicated to expanding our perspectives. The museum has a small garden equip with chickens that produces for the restaurant Manuela. <3 Totally save this for a sunday so you can brunch and dinner. 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
