We had the good fortune of connecting with Sahar Sanjar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sahar, how does your business help the community?
With Sundree , we are actively working towards normalizing discussions around mental health. We support this effort in a couple of ways: 1) 1% of every sundree.com sale goes to the Mental Health Coalition
2) We use our digital platform to provide tips or ways to check in on your mental health – a way to normalize the conversation.
With laChambre, our Incubate program offers a short term pro-Bono service to a few minority owned brands every four months to support and guide them with regards to growth, their launch, business fundamentals, strategy support and/or exposure.
With I am a voter. , we work hard to ensure everyone is engaging in civic duties nationally and locally.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sundree just launched in May after 2,5 years of work. It’s been extremely rewarding but also difficult. However, that was expected and welcomed. It’s an entirely new industry for me and I had to learn as much as I could – I finally had to ask for help which is something that’s been difficult for me.
laChambre launched in 2009 and has been an amazing ride. Every business has its challenges and teaches us so much. I learn everyday about what it means to be a business owner – the need to pivot at a drop of a dime. The ability to read the needs of others. Managing finances. This work is truly done daily.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things first, we would grab a drink at San Vicente Bungalows (spicy Margarita for me, please!) to catch up!
Have a delicious meal at Sushi Note.
Then we’d head down to my hometown of Palos Verdes – drive on the coast and check in at Terranea Resort.
For dinner, we would have delicious italian food at Avenue Italy.
Wake up and take a nice long walk/hike to The Yellow Vase and grab breakfast and a delicious latte. Go back to the hotel for some swimming and a spa day!
Get in a good workout at BoxUnion.
I love the Getty museum so we would definitely do that too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Countless people deserve recognition from me for helping me achieve and oftentimes excel my goals. Countless. However, my parents and their entrepreneurial spirit really inspired me at a young age. Immigrant parents really instill a unique brand of work ethic in their children without even knowing. They made things happen for themselves so I intend to do the same. Hopefully one day I can thank them properly.
