We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Nichols and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Let’s face it: both Blake and I really, really love to party. The moment we were born, our life has been a celebration. And as our careers took shape, we continued this celebration, creating immersive, spectacle-fueled events throughout the nation. Then Covid hit, and we saw our worlds crumble.
Both Blake and I refused to let the silence (the boredom!) destroy us. In July 2020, Of The Night was born.
We founded Of The Night to satisfy a need within our LA community – a need for fun, and play, and joy, during a time devoid of all the three. Of The Night is an expression of our combined love affair of outrageously unique experiences, and the democratization of parties for.the.masses. Inspired by the great parties and partiers of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, each Of The Night party package is a fully realized experience that guides partiers from their first today to their 2am last call.
What started as a “we-gotta-do-this” moment, has evolved into career pivot. Of The Night was pandemic born, and as the world opens up, we will continue to serve a need: a need to party.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Of The Night was created when the world was in isolation. Confined to our homes, we collectively yearned for moments of magic within an otherwise dreary landscape. Of The Night was there, delivering whimsy to people’s front doors…gifting the opportunity to escape reality by means of a thoughtfully curated party package.
But then, the world began to re-open, and people wanted out of their houses. Bars, restaurants, picnics, BBQs – literally anything to escape the solemn. So Of The Night had to pivot. Instead of activating the home space, we decided to activate the neighborhood by delivering a Parade themed party package that included all the essentials for a colorful romp outside. Both Blake and are obsessed with the customer journey. We are *constantly* evolving Of The Night to meet these new needs, for a world that keeps reopening and closing, reopening and closing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To celebrate Of The Night’s 1 year anniversary, Blake and I got dolled up, cruised around greater L.A. in a 1975 baby blue Mustang, and passed out party gifts to everyone who answered “yes!” to “hey, you like to party?” Plot twist: everyone said yes.
This is where we landed:
Little Jewel Of New Orleans
Tiki Ti
Akbar
Shakespeare Bridge
Jumbo’s Clown Room
Pattaya Bay Thai
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For the past two months, Blake and I have been apart of the Grid110 community. An L.A.-based accelerator creating “clearer pathways to success for early stage entrepreneurs,” Grid110 has been an invaluable resource for the growth of Of The Night. The program is a crash course in business, asking founders to dissect the problem, meaning, and scalable roadmap for their company. Admittedly, the accelerator is at times jarring (and exhausting, and bewildering), but the infinite knowledge both Blake and I have gained is invaluable. Grid110 quite literally deserves all the shoutouts.
