Meet David Ramos | Post Production Manger at Spotify Studios Originals

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that risk is an interpretation of stepping out of your comfort zone.
Taking risks has worked out well for me in my life and career; there is something about that leap into the unknown that is terrifying and exhilarating. That one step has the potential to ruin you or make you into something you can’t even conceive from where you are standing.
My approach to risk is about that “gut feeling” when you feel that correct combination of fear and excitement that shows you a glimpse into what it could be if so. That’s when I know that the risk is worth taking. So many times, I realize the actual magnitude of the step I just took until after looking back. Like when I moved to the C.A. to study film and pursue a passion and a career without knowing the language or having a support system. That single decision has brought me the opportunities to have a fulfilling career that I’m proud of and provides me a life of creative pursuit and professional gratifications.
During my career, I try to connect to that gut feeling I had at 19 when I have to take a considerable risk, and it helps me analyze what I’m about to do and get. in touch with my instinct. The older I get, the more I learn to trust my intuition and recognize when risk is an opportunity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My specialty is creating content for the Hispanic or Latino community in the U.S. I like to represent my culture and my heritage in the best way possible. But, unfortunately, that’s not the case in the U.S.; a lot of Latin media is produced by people to detach from their roots, which makes the content suffer.
I take pride in always looking out for how we Latinos look on the media I produce.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a Westside guy. Ever since I moved to LA 13 years ago, I always hung out in West L.A. Venice is my favorite; depending on the friend, I’ll take them to V Venice, the Marina. There is a park in the Marina called The Jungle where I bike there and hang my hammock; it is the best.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to the teachers who see raw talent and the hunger for knowledge in kids and help them show them the path to where they want to get.
I was lucky enough to run into my fair share of them at Santa Barbara City College School of Film and T.V.
People like Guy Smith, the head of the film Dep back then and the person who gave me my first job in C.A.
Teachers like Stevphen Davega and Curtis Bieber nurtured my curiosity. They gave me unrestricted access to their film archives and video equipment to work outside the school and explore my own creatives endeavors.
I give them a lot of credit for helping me realize my voice as an artist and teaching me skills that would help me make a living.
