We had the good fortune of connecting with Reykai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reykai, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me it was a form a expression. A platform to try all the crazy ideas I didn’t get to try in my freelance graphic design work

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work involves immersion of myself through a complete student experience. I got to where I’m at today by sheer determination and refusal to give up. I believe design is involved with every aspect of our life. I try to learn about the culture and specific medium in which I am choosing to express at the particular point in time. I’m still not at the end of my path. I’ve overcome homelessness, depression, and being black balled by my former mentors. I’m excited about the direction our design is going because we are finding our voice and it is being expressed more clearly. I believe it is a result of the mental growth that comes in the lifecycle of a creative

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Los Ángeles is such a massive city. It must be explored in zones. I would recommend going to see a Lakers or Dodgers game, and then going to the arts district to get food in little Tokyo, and go see the many vintage stores in the neighborhood

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Would love to shoutout my mother. My mother introduced me to most things design and fashion. Without her I do not know where I would be today, early exposure to the arts was key for me
