We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julian, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is something that I apply to my daily life as a creative. Every shoot we have some sort of risk involved. As a career move, it is always risky breaking away from the social norm of 9-5. Being able to make my own schedule and build my own business has been amazing. I have also taken positions with clients where we can grow together in this every changing environment. I am now a co-owner of a few different brands. No risk no reward !

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being able to work with so many different brands has been amazing. I have been able to produce / photograph campaigns for brands like Puma, OTIS Eyewear, Swatch, Coachella and many more! Working in an ever changing environment and with new clients has been by far the most fun. I am proud to have some clients that have lasted for over 5+ years.

Nothing is easy and I still deal with daily challenges. When working for yourself you have to be prepared for slow times, cancellations, rescheduling and budgets. The biggest lesson is always be on TIME ! I think showing the client that you respect their time as well as everyone else’s on set. When in doubt show up early !

My brand Julian Martin Creative is a full service production company. Everything from sourcing locations and talent to budgeting and execution. Would love to meet new clients and work together !

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live right in Venice by Abbott Kinney so for most visiting friends that is our first stop. Some of my favorite spots in Venice are Little Lunch for coffee and Gran Blanco for drinks. After that, I would hop in the car up to Malibu. Just driving that coastline is amazing and maybe stopping for lunch at Broad St oyster company. Heading into the art district would be a great contrast and I love some of the bars / restaurants down there. Go check out some galleries while down there and some of new pop ups going on around the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely ! Definitely want to give a shout out to my family, friends and business partners for all the support. I was lucky to meet some great people at an early age in my creative career. The whole crew at Transworld Surf back in the day ! They gave me my first shot at my photographer skills. Traveling the world and working with some of the best surfers in the game. It was an amazing experience and lucky to have that as my start. Justin, Blair and Jeremy for the opportunity to become business partners. Love ya’ll !
