We had the good fortune of connecting with Selamo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Selamo, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My entire life I was encouraged to take risks and always believed in my career as an artist. Taking a risk is something that thrills me on a daily basis and I am motivated to take risks to conquer my goals and dreams. I think that risk has a true meaning for an artist, since every decision, thought or goal results from taking a risk. Personally, I took risk by becoming extremely independent when I made the decision to pursue my dream to become an artist and move to Los Angeles from Israel. I came to Los Angeles without my family, just with one goal—to write songs, record songs and perform. I have different professional artists and labels , who believe in me and they definitely took risks when they decided to collaborate with me on many different projects. They took risks, but I know that I will do my best to show my inner and outer self as Selamo.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is my inner self. What sets me apart from other artists is my background. I grew up in Israel, however my entire life I felt connected to the R&B and soul genres, from Whitney Houston to Adele. I believe that my songs represent many different artist all at once. I am very excited about all the upcoming plans that I have in regards to new songs, productions and performances. It makes me very happy to know that I am surrounded by real talented individuals who positively influence me and help me create my identity as an artist. I had and still have many challenges, however, I always strive for success while believing in me and in my path to success. I have learned to trust my instincts and as always keep my values throughout my entire journey. I would like the world to know about my true self and my personality that truly reflect in each and every song that I write and sing. It is my dream.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city are places where I feel that I can create, feel inspired and enjoy as an artist. I would start the day with a good coffee in Silverlake, where all the different drawings on the walls inspire me and make me feel creative as I start my day. I then would continue to Hollywood Blvd as I like to walk and feel the Hollywood vibes as it is only unique to Hollywood. I do like to meet different new artists, as I always like to collaborate, talk and make new friends. I would then go to the studio to record together with other producers, professionals and individuals. To escape the city for a second I would drive to Venice Beach and watch the clear blue ocean as it gives me strength, inspiration and belief in what I do and create as a music artist. After that I would go to a nice rooftop, such as Mama Shelter, have a nice drink and socialize with other artists. I will then end my night at the studio, where I feel like I am truly home, while I sing and record with all the insights, thoughts and inspirations from my entire day as an artist.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success is not only my success. I must thank my family, mentors, labels, and other artists, who always showed their faith in me and in my road to success. I would like to recognize that my success is dedicated to my mother, who is my role model. She always taught me to be a strong independent woman, who can accomplish anything that I want. My mentors in Los Angeles have always showed me faith and always paved the way for me to create, sing and live as an artist. I would like to dedicate my success to the all women, who strive for success and never give up on their dreams.
