Meet Kidarah | Rainbow Rockstar

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kidarah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kidarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My uncharted determination and positive outlook. I am faced with challenges, self-doubt, and people telling me “no” everyday, but I don’t let any of those things stop me. When a challenge arises, I look at it as an opportunity to learn something new so that next time, it isn’t a challenge. When I doubt myself (which happens A LOT), I break down my long term goals into smaller goals that are more manageable on the day to day. When I get rejected by brands or venues, I remember that it is their loss and that soon, I’ll hear a “yes.” My outlook allows me to stay disciplined and keep going even when it gets rough, and that is when it really matters most.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make pop, rock, urban music. Being half black-half white came with it’s challenges growing up, but has influenced me in so many ways, especially in my music. I think that my sound perfectly reflects my musical influences growing up mixed. Growing up, I loved artists like Lady Gaga and Nirvana, but I also loved Rihanna, Betty Wright, and Drake. I can’t just pick one genre because I would be selling myself short. So instead, I effortlessly fuse my favorite elements from pop, rock, punk, hip hop, and r&b to create the “Soultri Music” sound that you hear in my records. I am the embodiment of my mixed cultures and my music speaks to that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My bestie and myself are Florida girls, love the beach and we’re both a lil boogie, so I would definitely take her to Malibu. We would take pics at El Matador beach and find a cute one-off restaurant to eat at overlooking the water. I know she would also love to eat on the roof at Catch LA. Beyond that, we are such good friends, we could find a way to have a great time anywhere we went!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout my late vocal coach, Grammy Award Winning Betty Wright, for believing in my voice. She taught me for a massively discounted rate and when my family couldn’t pay that rate anymore, she taught me for free (I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone that). The point being that her kindness impacted my life in a massive way and I see her influence pour out of me through my music all the time. For that, I am forever grateful. Rest in Paradise, Momma B.
