Meet Karen Delgado | Creator, Freelancer Coach, and Marketing Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I consider myself a huge risk-taker which has both benefited my life and career, and also gave me some scares along the way. One of my biggest risks was taken back in 2016-2017 when I left my traditional home, marriage, and life behind in California to travel the world solo. Since then I’ve used risk-taking, and strategic moves both physical (moving to new cities and countries every year) and career-wise (job-hopping and freelancing) to propel myself forward.
By not staying stagnant I’ve had exponential personal growth and also career and salary growth. I have 4x my salary in just 3 years, have become way more open-minded and creative from being exposed to different cultures, and overall find myself more interesting from the different experiences I’ve been able to take part in.
Although risk-taking still gives me some anxiety, it’s become more second-nature to me now, and I am able to focus on the positives vs negatives and welcome new experiences with open arms.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a marketing consultant, creator, and freelancer coach at karenalexandra.com.
On the marketing side, I help mid-large businesses with influencer marketing and account direction.
On the creator side, I used to be a travel blogger (sold my blog 1/2021) and now share my travels, entrepreneurship journey, and just life experiences on YouTube and LinkedIn.
Freelance coaching is a newer avenue I’m exploring as, being a freelancer myself, I know it can be daunting to find and connect with your ideal clients, balance your financial and personal goals, and fully take advantage of your freedom without feeling like your life is spiraling out of control.
Since I’ve had a few businesses already — travel blogger/influencer, social media manager, marketing consultant, and now coach — I have a very wide and varied perspective on how to find a balance and success within service-based businesses.
My journey has had many ups and downs, failed and successful attempts, but that’s what makes it great! Learning from the downs to propel you even further in the ups.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depends on where in the world they’re visiting me — I have many home bases now 🙂
In Miami I would bring them to:
– Ojo De Agua in Brickell for brunch. This Mexican-healthy cafe is my favorite for brunch, lunch, and just hanging out. The fish tacos are so good, as is the Açai.
– Suite Habana Cafe in Wynwood for coffee or matcha (my preferred drink) and some coworking. The owners are so friendly and the vibes is always on point!
– Soho Beach House. While you have to be a member (or friends with one, hi!) this is the best hangout spot for beach, pool, private events, and just to meet interesting creatives. I’ve made some good friends through Soho House and also some great networking. You also can’t beat chilling at the beach while being brought pizza, matcha, and rosé.
– Salvaje. A super cool rooftop in Midtown. I’d come here one evening for nice cocktails and good vibes.
– Heartland. A chill outdoor bar with live music and nice snacks. I’d bring my friends here one late-afternoon/evening for some chill good vibes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I credit my friends, family, failed marriage, and my travels to my success. Without my supportive friends, I would spiral even more and decisions would be harder to make. Without my supportive family, I would have been stuck in some very tough situations. Without my failed marriage, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to escape and create a new life for myself across the world. Without my travels, I wouldn’t have the mindset I have now, and would still be stuck in a little bubble of what I thought was my only reality.
