We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Whitney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claudia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

Looking back on my life, I don’t think I realized what a risk taker I really am! I think about how my parents did not shape me with their expectations when I was growing up. And even though at the time, I felt like they did not care and even held it against them, I see now that it was the thing that propelled me to take crazy leaps because I did not have pressure or expectations on me. I never had the feeling I was going to disappoint anyone. The only approval I needed was mine. So, in a way, it made it easier to take risks. It made me a woman who listens to my heart and does not let other people’s views and opinions influence mine.

After graduating high school in Kansas, I eventually went to cosmetology school and became a hairstylist. Cutting and coloring hair gave me insight into many types of people, and a common story I’d hear from my clients time and time again was one of not pursuing their dreams because they got married, had kids, or had a job they hated but couldn’t leave. One day I said out loud to a co-worker, “I’m never saying I could of, I wish I would have, or I should have done ________.” (fill in the blank with a dream).

After too many client stories of dreams forgotten and something deep inside nudging me, I sold everything, jumped in my car, and drove cross country to San Francisco to start a new life. I had never been there, and I didn’t have a place to live or a job to welcome me – so I consider this one of the first significant leaps I took in life. And it triggered many more similar leaps of faith that always ended up being the perfect thing at the time, even if it did not make sense.

My next move was to New York City with a similar storyline of not knowing the city, having connections, or a job. It was proof again that if you jump, the net will appear. Then the stakes were a bit higher when I decided to move abroad to countries like Thailand, Hong Kong, and eventually Australia. All enormous leaps of faith with no visa, little money, and a deep trust that it would all work out. And you guessed it – IT ALWAYS WORKED OUT FOR ME.

The different countries worked out, the jobs were always aligned, and the people I met along the way I consider family now. The golden thread that ties all of these stories together is that I had a solid connection to my intuition, lots of courage, and a deep trust that the universe had my back.

The role risk-taking has played in my life is a significant one. Because I have built a big bank of evidence that taking a risk is worth it, it’s a part of my day-to-day and a part of our family’s language. I know that whatever decision I choose is the right decision, even if it needs to be adjusted later – I make it right. The most important piece is that I’m connected to my heart and soul – and I listen deeply to the whispers and take the nudges seriously. I place way more importance and attention on my desires than my doubts and fears. I also make practices like mediation, stillness, and journaling a priority because it keeps me connected to my truth.

I also want to add that one of the most common regrets people have at the end of their life is not taking enough risks. Fear of failure or judgment causes way too many people to play it safe. I see this every day in the women I coach, and I believe life is too short not to live full out and pursue the calling deep inside.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I support creative and multi-passionate women in up-leveling their lives one step at a time. I combine CONSCIOUSNESS COACHING™, Spirituality, Leading Mindset Techniques, NLP, and Hypnosis to help them embrace their inner power and reach the next-level version of themselves. I teach them to trust their inner-knowing, connect to their desires, and live life with more pleasure, purpose, and possibility. I have over 20 years of experience, tools, and proven practices that empower women to shine without limits and be a leader in their lives.

In addition to coaching and hypnotherapy, I’ve been teaching yoga for 20 years, and it kick-started my love for supporting people with their inner transformation. Transitioning to being a coach and hypnotherapist was a challenge because there wasn’t just the coaching piece I needed to master – now I was an entrepreneur and got to be a boss and leader in my business. Navigating through the challenging and messy parts of my business and finally gaining success inspired me to support women in creating the businesses of their dreams! Now I have a program that teaches coaches, teachers, healers, mentors, and creatives how to build their heart-centered business, and I love it.

I also create programs and retreats for women that want to live a more fulfilled, purpose-driven life. They want more in their relationships, health, careers – you name it! It’s a magical process when a woman changes her thinking, embodies her higher self, and fully expresses herself. Hiring someone like me ensures you won’t give up so easily when it gets hard or when the inner-critic or self-doubt comes in strong. I shine a flashlight on your patterns and programming that keep you from moving forward in life and create strategies to set you up for success!

Whether in life or business, I couldn’t have done it without my coaches and mentors, and I believe getting support from someone like a coach, mentor, therapist, etc., needs to be a priority when up-leveling and creating a life or business of your dreams. It collapses time when you hire support, and you get your A-Z transformation much faster because someone has done it before you and shows you the steps, and more importantly, holds you accountable!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

If a friend were visiting me in LA, I’d take them to my favorite coffee shop, Alana’s Coffee Roaster in Mar Vista in the mornings, go on bike rides along the beach in Venice/Santa Monica, and have lunch at Fig Tree on the beach. Then, we would head to the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market on Sunday and have a picnic at Venice Beach. I’d also take them to Abbott Kinney for some shopping and people watching and to Erewhon to stock up on healthy eats for a hike in Malibu. We could also check out the tide pools (something my son loves!) and grab Neptunes Net for take away and eat it from the back of our jeep, watching the ocean and sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Some of my greatest teachers and mentors the last few years have been Eryka Stanton (Academy of Soul), Laura Pringle (Healer, Intuitive + Energy Worker), Aime Batuski + Ellie Montgomerie (Desire On Fire), and my supportive husband Jason Nogoy. I also want to shout out to all the powerful women I consider sisters in my community. They know who they are.
