We had the good fortune of connecting with Marivel Mendoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marivel, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I always tell people that our business began backwards. We launched our business over night and had no time to actually plan all the administrative/office items because we began to book up quickly. So when that happened we came to a point that every single moment of our life for the past was work, work, work. We were juggling so much and there was many moments of burn out but we kept working because of the passion and drive we have. Now that we have transitioned into a new space at our shop for party supplies, home and gifts we have built a team. Our team has helped us create a balance in our lives, because they have become the hands and feet of our business so it can continue to grow and keep going. My husband and I are no longer a team of 2. I think the balance we have created has empowered us to propel ourselves into our different goal streams and accomplish more. I think balance is essential, I believe I took it for granted for so many years and once we launched the business, we had no balance in the beginning and didn’t realize it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that sets us a part is that we always go above and beyond for our clients, no matter what. As humans you have days where you are not always on 100. but we have decide that we will always show up regardless and that has been our secret weapon. We have learned to love our clients from where they are, including their budgets and designs. Ultimately we are here to make them feel special and celebrated.
I am very proud to have opened a second business while still managing our balloon and event business. We have opened a party shop by the name of yourballoondream shop, which is a beautiful extension to our now business. I am excited for our future, we have so many new things coming and so many clients that are so eager to work with us, The future is bright and like we like to say, when there isn’t sun, we make sure to pull it out. We like to remain positive at all times.
It has never been easy for us. but we have learned to educate ourselves and learn in order to succeed and be better prepared for ourselves and the public.I think launching this business has been challenging because you are in constant competition with yourself and how well you take care of yourself, mind and body…. yet also try to be on top. Therefor now that we are in the next stage of building teams and have hired employees, we can focus on what our role is like a CEO and Founder.
Ive learned to pray for everything and put God first. Every single thing we have asked God for, He has put that into our path and hands. Ive learned to know what everything will work out no matter what. To take time for myself and learn to breathe. I am learned that I am human and I will never be perfect, but If I trust in my talent and creativeness I will go far.
I want the world to know that this is only the beginning or us. We have so much to still do and we won’t give up. My husband and I are strong people who love showing compassion to our community and we cant wait to continue to show love towards our county and near by cities. We truly believe there is no limitations to where we are taking our business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely do some massages at Indian Springs Calistoga, its definitely one of my favorites. Then head off to dinner in San Francisco with a beautiful city view. Do some shopping and site seeing. Maybe even hit the bodega bay beach for some outdoor fun and even some indoor bowling fun. We have so many exciting food places in Sonoma County such as Crepevine, El Roys for some delicious Mexican.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I began the business, I did it because I loved hosting events and I loved the feeling of making people fee special, loved and celebrated. As I started to see that my business was no longer a hobby and an actual strong business with returning clients I geared my mind into another plan about how I can support my parents and provide for them. My shoutout is to my parents who always pushed me to thrive and never give up. I also want to give recognition to my nephews, I want them to grow up knowing they too can be a business owner and achieve wealth. I want to be an example for them, because they motivate me.
