We had the good fortune of connecting with Henry Bond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Henry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I founded Journey Through Meditation with an idea— to make corporations happier, healthier, and more productive places where people can thrive. I decided that providing guided meditation experiences for companies was the perfect way to do so, and I began facilitating these events for employees on-site and via zoom. My guided meditations are 30 minutes long and allow employees to briefly disengage from work so that they can return to their responsibilities feeling recharged. I remain available for questions from employees after the guided meditation sessions so that they can learn how to practice in their own time. I also host weekend retreats for groups of employees by arranging lodging, customizing an itinerary that includes meditation and team-building activities, and partnering with a yoga teacher and vegetarian chef. I believe that coming together in retreat as a group to reflect and reset is essential to helping us grow interpersonally.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Meditation has changed my life in countless ways ever since I was first introduced to the practice 8 years ago, and I immediately saw the untapped potential it has to transform workplaces. I came to believe that meditation lends itself not only to employees with less stress and greater wellbeing, but to ones who are more engaged in their work, more likely to stick around for the long term, and more able to support the company’s bottom line. I decided to obtain a Master’s degree in Health Promotion with a concentration in Workplace Wellness from Maryland University of Integrative Health to learn how I could better implement my meditation programs. As a result, I have learned how to create environments of openness and inclusion. And I have learned how to help groups embrace different points of view and foster a safe and comfortable space for people of all different spiritual, as well as non-religious, backgrounds.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend of mine was visiting this upcoming weekend, here’s what I would recommend:

Friday night: Live music at the Townhouse, a creative haven in Venice for all far and wide.

Saturday morning: Tea at the Dragon Herbs emporium and elixir bar in Santa Monica
Saturday afternoon: Hiking up the Backbone Trail in Topanga.

Sunday morning: Brunch at Cafe Gratitude, a delicious locally sourced, vegan food and drink cafe with bright and spacious seating
Sunday afternoon: Dancing on Venice beach with Ecstatic Dance LA, a weekly silent disco event at the end of Rose ave.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank a couple of teachers who have supported me on my meditation and spiritual journey over the past few years. That includes Kai Shanti and Daniel Shai. Kai has taught me how to open my heart and allow more abundance into my life. Daniel has taught me how to give miracles and set healthy boundaries in life. I would also like to thank Haven Coliving, which has provided an amazing launching pad for my transition to living in Los Angeles. It has allowed me to build social connections and share my love of meditation by facilitating events twice per week.
