We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Parks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I actually fell into my current career path when I was a teenager. Growing up I thought I would be in Fashion. I even attended FIDM but when a friend asked if I could come PA a few Music Videos for G-Eazy who back in 2014 was a small artist. I quickly realized that creating art for musicians was much more my speed and I’ve been lucky enough to try out a bunch of different creative hats for artists over the years.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was always ashamed till recently to admit what I do because its just not one title. I enjoy so many different creative roles I could never just pick one. A few of my favorite positions within the creative wheelhouse would be: stage designer, visual designer, director, grapher designer, creative director, production designer, art director…etc
It has not been an easy road getting to a place where im proud of the art I create and can take credit for it. Im a woman in a mans world and for so long many people around me have tried to minimize my creativity for their own gain.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is communication is vital. So much is lost in personal assumptions, get everything in writing so both parties have a clear idea of what is to be created
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
9 am: Coffee at sightless 10 am: breakfast burrito at coax
11:30: Broad museum
4 pm: hike in Topanga canyon for a meadowy picnic
7 pm: dinner at Terroni’s
10 pm: drinks at Zebulon
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m here because the butterfly effect of Tyler Henry who suggested his brother, Kevin Henry to become a PA. Who then in turn invited my brother, Cliff Parks to come help out. Who then suggested we bring him and Kevin coffee on set which quickly turned into me and my friend, Emma who was visiting from England got put to work.
