Meet Chloe Copoloff | Songwriter & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Copoloff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
As a songwriter and artist, the most important factor behind my success is vulnerability.
When I was a senior in high-school I went on a trip throughout the deep south to learn about injustice in America and the Civil Rights Movement. The slogan of the trip was “Courage recognizes courage”, meaning, if you have the courage to open up and be vulnerable, somebody else will too. This stuck with me. The experience taught me that sharing your story, no matter how uncomfortable it might be, can help somebody else more than you know.
As a songwriter and artist, that is my ultimate goal. I want my success to come from a place of relatability and truth. I believe my purpose is to help others feel less alone in whatever they are going through, and music is my vessel to do so.
I’ve found that when I walk into a session with complete strangers and am able to open up and be honest about where I’m at in that moment, the other people in the room do the same.
To my fellow songwriters and artists, vulnerability is your superpower.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’ve been writing songs since before I could spell. I remember being nine years old writing lyrics in my diary and singing them acapella. When I was twelve I learned how to play guitar so I could finally accompany myself. Songwriting really started out as a coping mechanism for me.Throughout my life I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression, as well as many years of eating disorders. Music is what got me through it all, and continues to do so today.
Growing up I took every opportunity I could to perform, whether it be open mics, school performances, or playing for my family and friends. Then, when it came time to apply to colleges, I only applied to schools that had songwriting as a major, because I knew that was what I wanted to do professionally. I ended up going to Berklee College of Music in Boston where I majored in both songwriting and music business management.
My songwriting and collaboration skills vastly improved over my time in college. I’m so grateful to have been able to learn from amazing, talented professors. Of course, nothing compares to being thrown out into the world and really doing it.
I moved to Los Angeles in September 2020 after graduating. A job in music publishing fell into my lap that November, and I took it. It was a great opportunity to learn how publishing worked from the inside out, because my hope is to sign to one someday. I learned a lot by working at that company and also met my closest friends and collaborators through it. For that I am so grateful.
To be honest, leaving Boston and moving to LA was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. I had a boyfriend, who was my first love, that I had to leave to pursue my passion. The transition was difficult to say the least. Once again, songwriting kept me afloat. I understand heartbreak on a whole new level now, and I am lucky to be able to express those feelings through my music. As painful as it was, and often still is, I have a new level of empathy for others who are struggling. My goal is to help people feel comforted and less alone.
For the past year now, I’ve been songwriting full time, with a couple part time jobs on the side. It’s an honor to help artists tell their stories through songs in a way that feels authentic and true to them. I am so lucky to have written on a few releases this past year, one being PS5 by salem ilese featuring Alan Walker and TXT, as well as a few others with the incredibly talented and kind Francis Karel, and with the wonderful Andi Mitchell.
I recently played my first show in LA as an artist. It felt absolutely amazing to perform again. It was cathartic. There have been moments in the past year and a half where I genuinely questioned if moving here was worth it because that meant I was losing the person I love. What I do know though, and what I have to remind myself when I ask that question, is that when something sets your soul on fire, you have to pursue it. You have to at least try. If you don’t, you’ll regret it. So that’s what I’m doing, because I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm, I’m still pretty new here myself, so I’d want to go exploring and check out spots I haven’t been to yet either, haha. But if we were to go out, my friends and I’s favorite bars are The Phoenix in WeHo, and Brickyard in NoHo.
I’d also take them to the beach in Santa Monica, and then hit 3rd street afterwards.

Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc. that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
Oh gosh, there are so many people who have supported me and my career so far.
Thank you Mom, Brian, Harrison, Dad, Renata, and Talia for being my biggest supporters and for listening to every demo I send in the group chats lol.
Thanks to Billy Cioffi, my first mentor and songwriting partner. You made 14 year old me believe I could do this.
Thank you Suzie, Leslie, Jon, and Michael for being my biggest fans.
Thanks to my amazing friends, from Arizona, to Boston, to LA, who are so supportive of every little win.
And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to every single person who has believed in me along the way.
