We had the good fortune of connecting with Mercy B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mercy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I should have started my own business years ago. The idea of creating a product and selling it seemed incredibly exciting to me. Which is why in December 2019, I took the first step towards starting my business. I got my essential oils and herbs and threw myself into mixing up blends and trying them out on myself, friends and family. My thought process began with my father, he always wanted me to have my own any and everything. He encouraged me take control of my own career advancement by doing something that I love.I learned how to make soap from him since my family made all their own soaps from scratch dish, laundry and body soaps in Jamaica for three generations. I initially wanted to create something that would allow me to have a sustainable creative outlet. Soap making became a form of therapy I truly enjoyed the process of making soap and the benefits my skin retained. I knew I found something that not only I loved, but that others would too!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I keep it simple! Big soap companies overthink soap to the point that it’s just detergent. They take out all the good stuff and replace it with chemicals that are cheaper, and not as good for your skin. I make handmade soap in small batches, by hand, with the same basic ingredients they used years ago, it still works. I love making products that come from the earth. There’s something about knowing where something comes from that gives a sense of calm and connection. I love creating products that are not only simple, but beautiful. it’s been such a fun and learning filled journey so far with building this amazing company! From learning about the importance of all natural, plant based, sustainable ingredients and the importance they play with truly healthy skin, to learning the marketing behind building a soap company and understanding the analytics; it’s just been so incredible!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im all for a a great outdoor hike and lunch I would take my friends to hike the Santa Monica Mountains and grab lunch in Malibu and check out the cool attractions near the beach. including a competitive game of volleyball because that’s my favorite sport to play and coach.
