Meet Kylia Jackson | Digital Marketer & Web Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylia Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylia, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
In the Digital Marketing Industry, many don’t realize the full scope of what digital marketing covers. The first thing that comes to mind is Social Media Marketing, but this is only one piece of the pie. Digital marketing covers any type of marketing done on an online platform including email, websites, YouTube, blogs, etc. Through my Digital Marketing Agency, Her Light Creative, I help women-led businesses create strategic brands & websites that position them to be found by their target audience.
A mistake I see is that many people create brands & websites for themselves and end up frustrated when they aren’t gaining the clients and seeing the profit they desire. The sites may be pretty, but they aren’t functional for their business goals. I focus on building websites that help my clients gain leads while they’re sleeping or spending time with their families and that help potential customers find what they need as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Business owners don’t realize how much time and money they waste answering repetitive questions, collecting client information on random forms, and entertaining prospects that aren’t in their target market. It’s my mission to help make their online business experience as efficient as possible so they can get back to doing the things they love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Kylia and I am the CEO of Her Light Creative, a Digital Marketing and Branding Agency for women-led businesses. I specialize in creating brands and websites that attract and convert your dream clients. What separates my business from others is that we are results and experience-driven. We focus on making it easy for potential clients to find what they need from your business as efficiently as possible which helps you spend less time piecing together your marketing in different places and more time doing the things you love. We believe creating your dream brand should be as stress-free as possible.
The journey to finding my way in business was kind of frustrating in the beginning. I had so many interests and gifts but I didn’t understand how they all fit together. I come from a fine-arts background and I’ve always been creative. I originally went to college for photography but lost my passion for it due to the pressure of “monetizing my art”. It sent me into a creative depression for a few years and I didn’t have a desire to create anything anymore. In my sophomore year in college, I suddenly had an urge to pursue marketing. So I switched my major to Digital Marketing and it was the best decision I ever made.
I fell in love with the strategic and psychological aspects of marketing, but there was still a void in my heart to create. After I graduated college, I got a great corporate job but found myself extremely frustrated because I felt boxed into one role. I felt in my heart that I was created for more and I started my purpose journey. During this time, I began building a relationship with God and He restored me in every way. He brought me out of my creative depression and began to reveal certain assignments on my purpose journey. One of them is to help women birth the God-given ideas and business on the inside of them. It starts with helping them get out of their head. I do this through my weekly podcast, Organize My Thoughts. Then once the mental bondage is broken, I help them execute their ideas through my Digital Marketing & Branding Agency, Her Light Creative. It still blows my mind how detailed God’s plan for my life is and how much easier it is doing life and business His way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Harbor East is a beautiful area in downtown Baltimore. The view of the water is so beautiful and relaxing. My favorite places to eat while down there are Maximón and Loch Bar. Maximón has amazing Mexican food and Loch Bar has great seafood dishes. I would also recommend Phillips for some of the best crabcakes; Maryland is known for its seafood. The last food place I would recommend is Black Wall Hitch. I love that place!
As a creative, I always love to visit art museums. The Walters Art Museum and The Baltimore Museum of Art are two classics. They always have different exhibits so you can never get bored.
Another popular area is Fells Point. There’s always something fun & creative to do around there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank God for saving me, giving me purpose, and endowing me with gifts to serve Him and His people. Secondly, I want to thank my family for always investing in me and supporting me. Lastly, I want to thank Tatum Temia for being an amazing mentor in faith, business, and life.
