We had the good fortune of connecting with Mischa Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mischa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process for starting my own business came from a deep entrepreneurial spirit that I have had since I was very young. I have always seen myself as my own boss. I remember as a kid myself, a classmate and two of my cousins wanted to make $10.00 so we could go to Woolworth and get these pretty ribbons, barrettes, and give Mr. Leroy the shoeshine gentlemen on the corner $2.00 for a Greyhound bus ticket. The night prior I overheard that he was struggling to get $5.00 for a bus ticket to Texas for a funeral. We walked down by Goodwill and notice there was a trash can full of stuff people was throwing in there. (Didn’t realize we were taking donations for the store, lol) We sorted through some items, and I picked the best items to sale at our porch sale along with lemonade and Kool-Aid. That day we made $32.60. From that moment I knew this was my heart’s desire. By my hands I could create income to help myself, family, friends, and my community.
I started speaking things as though I already had retired from Corporate America as I began telling people I would be “retired” by 35. I did retire at 35 but had to return to Corporate America a year later. As I ventured into several businesses to find what called to my soul. My “retirement” was delayed by 12 years due to me being consumed by life events, I eventually started to look at life events from a different perspective and just had “Crazy and Unshakable Faith” at age 47. After an almost 22-year career in Mortgage Underwriting & Credit Risk Analysis, in February 2021 I began chasing my dreams as a full-time entrepreneur and Gurl Get Up was birth!
Gurl Get Up began with a mission of wanting to help and serve others who were stuck in toxic relationships with unhealthy attachments and boundaries, which all has to do with your mindset. Like I had for most of my adulthood dating and married life. For years I had struggled with abandonment and attachment issues, and I was unaware of it. I wrote about my healing journey in my newly released book: Gurl, Get Up!! The 12 Principals to Getting your Fight-back after Overcoming the Enemy within from Broken Relationships. Gurl Get Up began after completing that book, as it was only natural that I continue my efforts set forth in my book, and showcase how to break free from toxic relationships with unhealthy attachments and boundaries, of the need and start walking and living in peace. This happens by way of changed mindset, full reliance on God and taking action. I had not only gained peace but my soul was opened. That allowed me to begin to look at life from a different perspective. Because of this, I vowed to help others by showing others how I was able to do this and share some tips I used regularly. By December 2021, I had expanded into Life and Relationship and Mindset coaching. Gurl Get Up is growing and has incorporated meditation, journaling, a healthy diet, and exercise to aid in obtaining your optimal peace and wholeness! I have so many plans and ideas that I am currently exploring and it is all geared to help others women to Gurl Get Up- Mind, Body and Soul!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Having served almost 22 years working in the Financial industry as a Senior Mortgage Underwriting Professional and over 13 years in the Network Marketing profession, I am one that prides herself in resiliency. Working in both arenas has poised me to step out into full time Entrepreneurship because both required an insurmountable amount of diligence and determination. They both have garnered me the knowledge in contracting and prepared me to go after what I want and ensure the outcomes are in my favor or the favor of my client. Both career fields have prepared me to take a look within and find that hard work and organization to get things done in a timely fashion. This was not easy, but nothing good ever comes easy! I learned to embrace challenges. Challenges brings out that fight! I believe this sets me apart from other people, my “why” won’t let me stop or give in. Because of my resiliency, I will look that challenge in the eye and say “you got the right one hunni”!
Having a creative mind lends me that opportunity to be myself and just think outside the box to the problems for every solution. Gurl Get Up is more than just a brand, it is a way of life. It embodies healing from the inside out by changing your mindset and being accountable. This was hard to articulate at first. However, seeing that I embrace challenges, I refuse to sit idle and hope someone understood my message for the business. I am constantly researching and implementing new strategies to ensure I get in front of my ideal client and customer.
I strive to build brand that people can trust. As stated before, Gurl Get Up was built on my story, a story of fighting myself to break free from toxic relationships with unhealthy attachments and boundaries to become the woman I am today. Therefore, I go so hard for my brand. I want to give others hope and encouragement that they, too, can Gurl Get Up- emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. I get so excited to walk in my calling of helping others Getting Up and healing to be happy and whole!
Because of my desire to make a healing impact on my sphere of influence and to the masses, I am constantly researching energy healing and transformational techniques offer my clients to help them on their journeys. Imagine if we could all be operating out of a place of optimal healing space evoke a sense of cohesion of mind, body, and spirit, support healing intention, and foster healing relationships. Mindfully using our resources to positively impact human and planetary health is central to ecological resilience. I would think the world would be a happier and peaceful place, don’t you?
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OMG!! This is so funny that this is asked as each of us live in the same state, but just 15 minutues away. We frequently new resturants all the time. My Favorite spot in the City is Sugar Jams, which is owned by such an amazing soul, Dana Dumas. The vibe is amazing, and they regularly have different poets, musical artistry via paint and the hottest DJ’s. Some of my favorite restaurants Capital Grill, Hash Kitchen, and Tap That. My Favorite Ghost Kitchen are Southern Friend and Smoke Somthin’ BBQ! The people of Phoenix and surrounding areas are always hosting various events and pop ups so if my friends were in town, we would definitely see who is hosting something and add that to our itinerary. I am sure there is something going on at Blue Martini, SoHo and The Coyote. During the spring and summer months we would take a drive up to Sedona to hike and attend some jazz festivals out some of the resorts. Walking in the park in Laveen or hiking South Mountain trails are some of my favorite past times as well. There is likely something going on there as well, from Jazz in the Park, Concerts in the park or Food trucks in the park.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
