We had the good fortune of connecting with Claribel Tovar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claribel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always had my doubts about starting my own business, and to this day I still have them. The difference is that fear has not been an excuse to not do my things, because even with fear I do them. I always think about what are my possibilities and what could I achieve and attached to that, you can’t start building a tower from the top, you have to start from the bottom , brick by brick if you want to do things right.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I could have chosen to identify myself as an Artist, because I love to create art. but I think at this point in my life would consider myself more as a business woman. I never attended a business school, and I always hated sales, I just wanted to do makeup, create art, make people happy, help others and stand out from the rest.
Being and Entrepreneur was not a decision I wanted or decided to make, one thing led me to another. I started just doing makeup, always showing myself as professional as possible both in practice and teaching. When I started my studies with my first master’s degree, I always did my best to make myself stand out, but not out of presumption. I just liked to give my best, showing that things can be achieved even if the circumstances were the worst, in another words to be an example to others that they can do it as well. I have always been very dynamical with others, encouraging them to create new things and get out of their comfort zone, until I realized that I had a spirit of leadership, which only with time I was able to understand and it made me adhere more to that role.
After I started with my degrees I felt I was ready to be known more in the industry as a professional makeup artist, this was not easy, I move to a new city where no one know about me , no family and friends only myself, kids and my partner. But to be able to be noticeable I knew I had to do something, marketing myself. Social media has been one of the biggest platforms to market so I used that to my advantage I started investing my time an money in that to make more traffic and attraction , keeping myself creating and collaborating with other professionals to make content for my portfolio, uploading it everywhere where I could, charging a few amount or nothing to practice and get reviews . But being successful does not depend precisely on this, your attitude also plays a strong role, you always have to bring the best attitude to your clients, and every person you are gonna work with, I never talk about drama, I am there to forget about it, to make people happy so I have to be happy, sleeping well, eating well, having a healthy lifestyle, to represent myself and my business.
After all this I knew I had to have a system, being more organized with payments, bookings, emails, having a good image on the web, until Claribel Tovar Professional Makeup became a legit business , with a great reputation and now becoming officially an Agency , that great companies and clients look for. Yes , im really proud of this success but my greatest success has been inspiring others to achieve their dreams, to be better with their abilities and to believe that they can also be someone better in life..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Its Las Vegas, there is always a great Party in the streets! the biggest events, shows , parties. I love this city so much, you go out there and you see people happy, you are around people that come from somewhere in the world to forget about drama and live their best time of their life. We also have the best chefs and restaurants, all ethnicities. You better tell me what food you like and ill take you to the best spot where they cook that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a lot of people in my life who I will give a shout out starting with my family, my parents who even I never was a good student they always supported me with my studies to be good with my art skills. My sisters, a great example of entrepreneurship and guiding me to take good decisions in life. My Partner and best friend, that always supports me even in the most craziest decision I could ever make, and helping me to stand up if I could ever feel falling apart, including my daughters. My mentor Andrea Curto from the first Makeup school I attended (TUMAKEUP), the best person who helped me since I was just a “baby”in the industry, she helped me not only to become a makeup artist, but a Great and Professional Makeup Artist, The Powder Group and Makeup Lovers Club, that when I felt that my career was declining due to the circumstances of life, they always helped me to stay strong and not stop pursuing my goals, becoming better and better, despite any setbacks I might have.
And to all those friends who have been in my side always supporting me, recommending me and helping me to achieve my goals I say, THANK YOU FOR BEING IN MY LIFE.
